After heavy delays the participants of the 2008 International E-Sports Festival have been announced.Between the 4th and 8th of December, 16 players across four teams will compete in a Warcraft competition in Wuhan, China. The 16 players are divided into regional teams: China, Korea, Europe and Asia. Players on teams China, Asia and Korea all qualified for the event through regional qualifiers though players on team Europe were invited directly to the event.
Team China is leading with its best foot forward, having both Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li and Xuwen 'infi' Wang of World Elite on the roster, accompanied by teammate Zhuo 'TeD' Zeng and lastly Chenglong 'Sai' Zhou, of Mousesports. Infi, of course, the WEG 2008 champion and winner of the China versus Korea Series will be in attendance.
Team Korea also has a pretty impressive team with two of the best performers of 2008 on the roster, June 'Lyn' Park and Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang. Moon only recently finished runner up at the World Cyber Games 2008, while Lyn has been performing solidly all year round, including wins at the BlizzCon and the Masters of Athens. Jung Ki 'Susiria' Oh and Deok Man 'SocceR' Youn of MYM complete the team, and while their solo results are rather lacking of late, these are two of the best players in South Korea, evidenced by their qualification.
Team Europe is certainly, on paper, the weakest of the three mentioned teams. Yoan 'ToD' Merlo leading the way is no surprise, but the omission of Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen is sure to upset a lot of fans and certainly hinder Europe's chances. Of course, not every player can attend every event and while it's probable Grubby was invited, he may have not been able to accept. Europe has been throwing the Warcraft community curve balls this year, with promising talent literally falling out of thin air, Europe may be the underdogs here, but there's no question as to whether or not they have the ability to stand toe-to-toe with the two giants – they do. Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn, Daniel 'LiiLD.C' Claesson and Kim 'SaSe' Hammar are all strong competitors, though the predominantly Night Elf oriented team might make things a little difficult.
In addition to Warcraft, Starcraft and Counter-Strike competitions will also be present at the event. Eight Starcraft players across two teams, China and Korea, will be participating as well as eight Counter-Strike teams all competing against one another.
