Shortly after the Dreamhack Winter 2008, the G7 have updated their rankings with basically only one change in the standings. SK Gaming are now placed first with 579 points while fnatic are down to the third rank with 523 points.

SK Gaming gained a total of 100.38 points compared to the last ranking now switching place with fnatic, who were ranked first. Fnatic only lost 12.01 points but with SK and mTw placing better than them at the Dreamhack, they have now switched place after being first for quite some time.

Below you can see the latest rankings, updated after DreamHack Winter 2008:

and yet again you are wrong.
Download the .xls file from the G7 website, it is there and you will see EXACTLY who gained which points from what tournament. This way I don't have to answer your question. Please conduct a list from what you will find and post it in here EXACTLY the way it happened, then we can check together what went wrong. I am eager to learn about hickups in the ranking to take the input to the G7 and discuss adjustments.

Christ. How many times does Theslash have to write this? Read the fucking open ranking manual for G7 and then come back with these stupid questions. Dreamhack had a bigger event pot because more G7-higher ranked teams attended compared to WCG.

Well of course this is not THAT precise...
Though I think SK Gaming is the best team right now, based on all results mTw should be 1st followed by them 2nd...
It will all happen in 2009 guys/girls =D

The ranking sounds good even if this system doesn't show the current level of these teams :>

anyway, that's fun to see some SK admins trying to defend their name against some random website users :>

But the funniest thing is to see Tentpole getting mad cause of this... I though progamers didn't care of the news / comments ... Why are so you frustrated ? PlaYbOy

This ranking is not for 2008 only, and if mTw.dk are so much better than SK, they'd certainly beat them in the finals at WGT. And if they did they'd be first on this ranking, but they didn't, and that's life. Now quit the arguments, this was well deserved, no matter how good mTw played at other events. And if they are stable and SKs not they'll pick this first place pretty soon, time will tell.

I had a little time and I like statistics, so:

Dreamhack - attended top10 teams:
- SK (478.86 pts) after 8% depreciation: 440,55 pts -> Nov. pts: 579,24 (+138,69)
- mTw (510.00 pts) after 8% depreciation: 469,20 pts -> Nov. pts: 561,66 (+92,46)
- MYM (401.29 pts) after 8% depreciation: 369,19 pts -> Nov. pts: 415,42 (+46,22)
- fnatic (535.42 pts) after 8% depreciation: 492,59 pts -> Nov. pts: 523,41 (+30,82)
- mouz (391.61 pts) after 8% depreciation: 360,28 pts -> Nov. pts: 364,88 (+~5 pts)
- MiBR (292.89 pts) after 8% depreciation: 269,46 pts -> Nov. pts: 274,05 (+~5 pts)

Event value=2610,07 (based on rankings of October)
Really given out (based on the rankings of November): 138,69+92,46+46,22+30,82=308,19 pts + 5-5 pts to mouz and MiBR
308,19/2610,07=0,118077=>11,81% of the event value

According to their presentation ranking modell gives
1st (45%) = 1174,53 pts x 11,81% = 138,72 (equal with the number above)
2nd (30%) = 783,02 pts x 11,81% = 92,48 (equal with the number above)
3rd (15%) = 391.51 pts x 11,81% = 46,23 (equal with the number above)
4th (10%) = 261,01 pts x 11,81% = 30,83 (equal with the number above)
of the event value and 5-8th get +5 points, because event value is big enough. So, MiBR and mouz got + 5 points.

So, the rate is correct, the only question is: why exactly 11,81%?

Maybe this % value controls the followings, too:
- prizemoney (in connection with motivation)
- deviation (events in the end of year get higher event value because players/teams have higher ranking points in the end of year)

If yes, then I think everything fine.

devitation is definatly not a factor which regulates the % value, since its a longterm ranking, not calendar-year-based. so the teams have the similiar rating in january '09 in relation to december '08 (in case there are no tournaments).

and i doubt the prizemoney is calculated, its solely about the teams attending.

and this, dear marienn, explains why dreamhack is worth more than WCG pointwise. e.g. mouz and fnatic both didn't attend WCG, and because both teams are high rated it makes dreamhack more valueable. (although i think the prestigious tournaments like ESWC or WCG should get some kind of unique status, since teams indeed tend to be more motivated prior those events and therefore tend to train more beforehand).

That still doesnt explain why the value of Dreamhack is higher than WCG in my eyes, point taken regarding only 1 team per country and such, but what about the qualifies ? mousesport didnt, as far as i know, advance through the german qual, and im sure same goes for a lot of good swedish teams, so because good teams are knocked out in the qualifications, their attandance doesnt count in the large scale ? they where still beaten on the road to finding a winner of the tournament.

agree with the people saying mtw should rank in first place...As a SK supporter i can say that the ranking can only show the acceleration of teams.. Sk had a nice rising after zet joined but still i think mtw is #1

tbh! Its the G7's ranking, not SK's, the G7 point system has been the same all the way through but some of you idiots just can't understand it because you have not been to school.

Number 1 at this moment, mTw played an amazing year, SK have picked it up recently, hence the surge of points!

Oh so great ! I mean, every time SK win an event we got a new ranking, how come ? And every time SK win a "second choice tournament" they jumps like 3 places in the ranking, funny right ? Hope you'll get that money from the sponsors...

But you would get answers to your questions if you read how it works...it have been higher ranked teams in the events SK won... and mTw was the best team 2008 according to G7-ranking but SK had more points before.

In conclusion, one should just understand that this ranking does not resemble the best team for the year. G7 is more like the overall ranking of organizations in the long run. It is without a doubt that mTw is the hottest team of 2008, but of course the ranking system works differently. But then again, everyone is entitled to his own opinion.
