Cypher has been spartified, rapha in final

ImageThe semi-finals are now over and for the first time in 2008, Alexei 'Cypher' Yanyshevsky won't be able to win a tournament. On the contrary it is the first time that the young Swede Sebastian 'Spart1e' Siira has made it to the Final.

If next year someone would ask what was year 2008 biggest surprise, It sure has to be Sebastian 'Spart1e1' Siira's incredible performance through out the ESWC Masters of Athens tournament. Not only he got in the Playoff passing his fellow countryman Magnus 'fox' Olsson, but also winning the master of Quake 3 for 2008 - Alexei 'Cypher' Yanushevsky.

The match between these two was predictable in a way. This way was that it won't be close, but no one thought that Cypher won't be the one raging both maps.
Pro-Q3DM6 was the first map where the Belarusian didn't stand chance during the whole game as the score was 5:24.

The second map, HUB3AeroQ3, seemed to be the one where Cypher will do his magic again as he clearly was better on it than anyone else in the tournament, but it didn't happen again. Spart1e seemed to be playing with his opponent letting him gain some ground until changing the roles. After few minutes he started to hunt his prey and grant himself in the Final itself.

Also this loss has prolonged Cypher's losing streak to four maps in a row.

The other semi-final was between Cypher team-mate Maciej 'av3k' Krzykowski and SK Gamings Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson. This match was a lot more closer and lot more tense for both players than the other one. The first map went to rapha who won HUB3AeroQ3 with a score of 35:25.

But the real deal of this match only comes to the last minute of the second map, no-DM9. The Polish wonder boy seemed to have recovered from the loss and was leading the game and till the last minute he had a three frag lead over the American. Then came the comeback, as rapha got a kill on av3k. At this point most spectators would have thought the same thing - "He's going to hide".

But hiding or not the American player was running around the map in hyper speed with only one thought in his mind, to find av3k. His persistence paid off and he got enough kills to get in the Finals.

The Final will be between Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson and Sebastian 'Spart1e1' Siira.
The match for the 3rd place is underway and after two maps the score is 1:1.
