HMV the UK and Ireland's leading specialist retailer of music has bought out GamerBase, a British Multiplayer organisation and is set to open a new LAN centre in Manchester as well having plans for other locations in the UK in the future.GamerBase founded by familiar face and Quake legend Sujoy Roy as well as Dominic Mulroy started now join HMV in a senior managerial capacity due to their experience and involved with GamerBase.
Gamerbase began its business inside one of HMV's Trocadero store in London's Piccadilly Circus and now HMV has formally bought out the company following its success.
With all games pre-installed the store allows people to try before they buy on a concession basis giving them a chance to sample new release games on PC and console. HMV’s Manchester Market Street will open before Christmas and will feature around 50 PCs as well as consoles. Other sites planned for expansion include Edinburgh, Newcastle, Southampton and other central London stores.

Although the death of Omega Sektor signals that perhaps the UK is not ready for eSports, HMV GamerBase could be a stepping stone towards warming the British public to gaming in general. "This will open up great opportunities for HMV to become involved in regional and national competitions, which, of course, will benefit the games industry as a whole," said Dominic Mulroy, let us hope so.
