NetEase's Rules of Survival, the new kid on the esports block, has taken the competitive scene by storm with its first ever tournament with a total prize pool of $650,000. Not bad at all for a game that has only been globally released for just over a couple of months. Since our Vainglory team is on competitive hiatus, we cordially welcomed NetEase's invitation to be a wildcard in the online Finals last Sunday, 21st of January 2018, to vie for a chance to represent the European region.
Contending with 14 other teams each comprised of the top-ranking survivors in Europe, we had a safe start as we parachuted down to the least favourite spot on the map, Wheat Town, far-away from the trigger-happy mobs. Scavenging for supplies had never been as tranquil and we were all fully equipped with guns, ammos, armours, the whole shebang by the time we fought face to face with the enemies towards the end game, therefore securing Rank 5 in Game 1. We planned on pulling off the same strategy in Game 2 but KValafar stumbled upon some bug issues, which left us with a man down even before we fired our first shot. Despite the disadvantage, we marched on to snag Rank 1 in the end.
Thinking third time’s a charm, we dropped off at the same area for Game 3 but did not enjoy the benefit of bottomless supplies as another team was in the same area and denied us from the good loots. Fast forward to the super late game, if only Bayu’s Molotov went a meter farther then it would have killed the last remaining enemy. Another wrong move led to Bayu receiving the deadly bullet therefore handing us Rank 2. Game 4 went by so fast, we got wiped out by an enemy team in a snap very early on in the game leaving us in Rank 15. The brunt of the last game left us overcautious in Game 5, which paid off... kind of as we finished the battle in Rank 13.
WOW! 4th place . Unfortunately only the top 2 teams move on to go to play the World Finals in China! Considering our inexperience with the game we did so amazingly well! GGs to my teammates and thank you @RoS_Mobile @SKGaming. We had tons of fun ! pic.twitter.com/ayw5bebjOd— SK.KValafar (@KValafar_VG) January 21, 2018
Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for our mobile allstars to compete in a different game category. Will you see more of SK Gaming in the Rules of Survival competitive scene? We cannot answer definitely yet but based on the ranking we reached with a very short preparation time, we sure could prove once more that we are at par with the best survivors in Europe. Watch this space for updates and check our highlight video featuring some sick plays!
The two respective teams who came out on top from Asia, Europe and NA regions will battle it out neck and neck against the top 9 Chinese teams in the RoS World Championship in China in March.
If you are into battle royale, this mobile game's right up your street. Chances are, you will get utterly hooked... yes, this is a warning! Visit the Apple Store or Google Play to download the game.
