In case you have not realised, I was on a two-week writing hiatus for a much-needed holiday somewhere nice, warm and sunny. It seems that a lot has happened in the two weeks I was gone and now the coming weekend will be the last of the qualifier.
What does the last week of the Spring Season entail for SK Gaming?
Best Case Scenarios
Rest assured I will be praying with KValafar to all the Halcyon gods to make both G2 Esports and Team Secret lose their series on Saturday since this scenario will give us higher chances of securing one of the top two spots.
We have 0% influence on Team Secret’s matches on said day, but it is not the case with G2 Esports. If you are an avid follower of VG8, you probably have been keeping track and are well aware that we so far have not beaten G2 Esports this season. This is of course frustrating, but we are not letting this unnerve us. Clearly, our Saturday matches against G2 Esports are of paramount importance to us not only to increase our chances for the top spots but also as an extra boost for our team’s morale. Excuse my fantasy, but imagine if we won the championship and G2 Esports were there to taunt us with, “but you never beat us!”. That has a making of a “cash me ousside, howbow dah” moment.
Keeping in mind that the top two seeds will have a bye for the first round of the championship, if Team Secret (28 or 29 points) loses to Cyclone (22 pts) and we win our matches against G2 Esports (G2: 31/32 pts; SK: 29 pts) as well as Fnatic/Rising Lotus (SK: 31 pts; Fnatic: 21/22 pts), this will lock us firmly onto the 2nd spot. Losing to Fnatic/Rising Lotus, however, does not mean our race for the 2nd place is over as long as we win at least a match to earn a point (SK: 29/30 pts). Advancing to the finals though would give us a better stab at the #1 spot (SK wins: 35 pts; SK loses: 31 or 33 pts).
What if Team Secret won and reached the final stage? It better be us they are against at that stage and not all hopes are lost. Winning at least a match in the finals would seal the second seed for us.
What if G2 Esports won? Read below.
Worst Case Scenarios
Here comes the proverbial phrase… our glass is half full, so there is no worst case scenario since no matter what the outcome is for us this weekend, we have a guaranteed spot for the Unified Western Live Championship in London on the 19th to 21st of May. We may not have a bye for the first round, but it only means that we have to work harder to get to the next round. We are all looking forward to this live event and much preparation is underway, one of which is for our boys’ bootcamp beginning on the 10th of May in Cologne.
Rising Lotus will most likely advance to the championship unless they lose to Fnatic on Saturday and Fluffy Chickens wins all the way through to the finals (Rising Lotus: 9/10 pts; Fluffy Chickens: 11 pts). We all have a soft spot for the underdog so I am sure some of you will be rooting for Fluffy Chickens.
As for Mousesports, sadly, even if they put their full-blown beast mode on, none of their wins will qualify them for the championship at this point. Although I doubt that they will stop trying because even a 1 looks better than a 0.
