Archi: "There's no excuse for what happened"

ImageFnatic experienced one of their worst performances in the team's history. Two straight lopsided losses against EG and Roccat sent them out the door until the next event. Oscar "Archi" Torgersen tries to explain what happened.

This is one of fnatic's worst showings to date, what happened?

fnatic.Archi: Our preparation wasn't good enough for this tournament. We played at Dreamhack last week, and we played pretty bad there as well. We didn't really practice between that event and this one. I can't really explain why we played this bad, we've never played this bad, ever. Losing 16-2 against EG and 16-5 against Roccat is embarrassing for us.

Why weren't you prepared?

fnatic.Archi: Probably just a bit on the lazy side. We haven't played at all for this event, skipping practice more than we usually do and more than we should. Hopefully we'll get some more practice before Montreal, we're going to need it.

You must not have been expecting to get beaten this badly, though.

fnatic.Archi: We should take down those teams to begin with. Even if we would lose to them, we should be able to put up a close game. There's no excuse for what happened.

What went wrong?

fnatic.Archi: I don't know really, we don't play the same as we usually do. We have less confidence in our game. We've always been playing fast rounds and lots of rushes, and now people are playing a really slow style. We're probably going to have to do the same thing and change things up.

SK took it to EG on Train twice, and EG stomped you pretty bad. I'd expect you to put up a better fight.

fnatic.Archi: SK has switched their playstyle as well, playing a lot slower. We try to go fast B rounds, go fast yard rounds. Ee need to start taking our time and getting the frags we need to. We just went in with head on rushes and ended up getting destroyed pretty much.

Talking to Walle, he mentioned that you guys have a mental stigma around you, do you agree?

Imagefnatic.Archi: We have always had a bit of a mental issue. Both positive and negative, if we win the first gun round by a fast rush, we usually get a lot of rounds consecutively. If we don't win the gun round, we end up losing a lot of rounds in a row. We don't usually end up trading rounds, it always ends up one way or the other.

Why didn't you make any adjustments?

fnatic.Archi: Not sure. All we did was change from rushing B2 to rushing B1, not that much of a difference. Train has always been rush tactics, alley, B2, now people are more or less waiting for the right timing to surprise their opponents. We haven't made that change like the other teams and it's something we're going to have to work on. We won't be able to stay at the top of the pack if we don't.

Do you feel that Counter-Strike 1.6 has continued to evolve and stay fresh over the years?

fnatic.Archi: Yes, absolutely. Everything comes and goes but it's always changing. Inferno used to be a map where CT always got 9-10 rounds every match. Now it's possible that T can get the same number of rounds with the current playstyle.

What did you think of ESL's second event in America?

fnatic.Archi: I think it's great. I've had fun both times I've been here. I think Los Angeles is a great place to hold an event so I have no complaints.

What preparation will you have for the Montreal event?

fnatic.Archi: We're going to be staying at the Oakwood in LA for vacation. Last year we stayed in the same place and we were able to relax, play some 3v3's, 2v2's, 1v1's, aim maps, just for fun. It ended up being a really good experience for us because we didn't have to stress so much, and we played better from it. I'm hoping the same thing happens this time around.

What will you be doing on vacation? Anything saucy?

fnatic.Archi: We're gonna go shopping, enjoy the sun, do some skinny dipping, and mix in some counter-strike :D. We'll try to explore our sexualities some, we like that.

I know you do, thanks Archi.
