CPL reveals plans for two new events

ImageAccording to an announcement made on CALeague.com the CPL, LLC plans to announce two international events scheduled for 2009 before the year is out.

In August 2008 it was revealed the CPL brand had been renamed CPL, LLC, after being purchased by an investment group based in the United Arab Emirates. The group revealed their intentions to continue organising gaming events under the CPL brand, though information as to what those events would entail was scarce.

Given the status of the CPL brand just prior to ceasing operations the legitimacy of the announcement was thrown into question. A quick dig for information lent a small amount of credence to claims made in the press release.

NewWorld.com, Inc., the company which held intellectual property rights over the CPL has since updated its portfolio, claiming the Cyberathlete Professional League brand has been sold, though retains rights to CAL. The CPL website currently hosts a logo and press release detailing the investment group's acquisition of the brand.

With the latest announcement, the group details their intentions to partner with or acquire media and gaming technology properties, fill several positions within the organisation and reveals plans to announce two new international events before the year is out.

Of the two events scheduled for 2009, one will be held in the United States, while the location of the other is still up in the air.

The announcement makes no reference to specific titles, though does mention the criteria for featured games, "Various game titles across multiple platforms are currently being reviewed for inclusion in these events, with the objective of including both competitive and entertainment titles."

The press release also makes mention of providing a platform through which "independently developed technology can be presented for review." though no further clarification is included.
