In the grand scheme of things, $6 million is chump change for Blizzard in this situation. However, the more important factor that is being talked about much less is the precedent that this court case has created. Blizzard argued that Glider was infringing on some DMCA issues because it copied code into RAM -- something that occurs frequently to any computer user. It's a dangerous precedent to have set, and gives much more control over exactly how any (and all) programs are used into the hands of the owners and developers, rather than the users.

According to the BBC the Glider program cost $25 and it's believed the company sold around 100,000 copies.

Glider also has a subscription plan for "elite" gliders which is 5 dollars a month.

It's not the Gliders fault that Blizzard made a game that takes ages to level and you have to basically dedicate your life to if you want the best gear. Diablo 2 was probably the best game in terms of time use and it was super fun.

The point is not everybody has time to get really good at WoW, just like not everyone has time to have a girlfriend. Hence prostitutes / call girls.

Defniatly wouldn't be a bad thing if they lowerd the monthly pay of world of warcraft. How ever it's "only" 6mil.. and there's like what? 8 million people playing? :p more? i dont know more than 6 mil atleast :D So it wouldn't quite make up for it.

It'll never get to this though. They'll sit around the table and blizz comes with a proposal to dismantle their operation and probably take their profits. This is a signal they are sending, don't expect the maker to actually pay or have to pay the fine.
Nevertheless they are the reason a _lot_ of people are banned or received temp bans at least, they should be punished for partially destroying pvp for quite some time. We all remember the AVs with 25-30 ppl afk during the night hours with absolutely NO WAY of doing something about it (e.g. reporting, ..) Ok sure there are a lot of these programs but this one was one of the more popular ones.

and the botting'll _never_ stop anyway. i mean they track down programs running in the background acting like "bots". When a program like wow is ran on a guest acc on the comp, the guest acc doesnt have the rights to "scan" the other processes e.g. bots. It wont change.
