emuLate will not defend WCG championship

ImageThe WCG 2007 champions emuLate have faltered in the French qualifier and will not be defending their title in Cologne. Esport EU will be representing France instead.

Esport EU beat Millenium 2-1 in the WCG France final after taking only one round in the opening map on de_nuke. It was 16-1 to Millenium and it did not look like the internationally unknown team would be going to the WCG Grand Final. Esport EU won the next two maps 18:16 (de_train) and 16-10 (de_tuscan).

The biggest surprise of the qualifier was that the WCG champions emuLate were knocked out in the group stage. The best French team only managed to beat one opponent in group play (eXtreme Gaming 16-9) and lost to aAa and Ubiteam 12-6.

With the Extreme Masters III season around the corner (tournaments in Los Angeles, Montreal and Dubai), it looks like emuLate have a lot of work ahead of them.

WCG France standings:
"1. Esport EU
2. Millenium
3. aAa
4. Ubiteam"
