Kim “SaSe” Hammar and Yoan “ToD” Merlo book tickets to WCG Grand final as the former Mousesports pair come out on top of their respective national finals. The Sweden national finals took place in Skellefteå this weekend with lots of notable absences. Not only the winner and the runner-up of Sweden Star league, Daniel 'LiiLD.C' Claesson and Sebastian 'FuRy' Pesic were missing, but also a couple of Sweden national team players like Fredrik 'KnOfF' Knopf and Marcus 'Thorzain' Eklöf.
The major competitor for SaSe in the tournament was the Serious Gaming Undead player, Hjalmar 'DowaQ' Högberg. The 17-year-old broke into the ranks of top Swedish players last year, and qualified for ESWC Global final in the first year of his professional gaming career.
In spite of losing the first game to his younger compatriot in the final, SaSe had the edge to overturn the score and secured himself a place in Cologne, Germany with a tight 2-1 win.
The France national finals, in the meantime, opened in Paris with well known players like ToD, and Millenium pair Mateusz 'hG' Pietrzak and Bora 'PsYkO' Kim, but ESWC France representative Christophe 'Wolf' Laporte did not participate in the qualifier.
As expected, the Gravitas Gaming player finished the whole tournament without dropping a single map and qualified for the Grand final for the fifth successive year after beating hG 2-0 in the final.
