The ESWC Masters of Athens event will probably be much more difficult to win than the ESWC Grand Final judging by the list of invites. The press release of the ESWC refers to the invitees as "champions" and it is not far from the truth. There are four past ESWC winners on the list (Cooller, fox, Cypher, av3k), a runner up (k1llsen), a bronze medalist (rapha) and the best Quake player in 2006 and 2007, Toxjq.
The ESWC Athens event will arguably be the most difficult tournament this year with Maciek 'av3k' Krzykowski and Johan 'toxjq' Quick in the playing field. It could have been even more interesting but Alessandro 'stermy' Avallone is not coming because he was hoping for QuakeLive to be the game used in Athens.
The invite list looks as follows:
Four Greek players will complete the list of attendees. The seeding will be announced on Wednesday, October 8. The event itself will take place from October 17 to 18 and will have a total of $30,000 in prizes for Quake 3 and Warcraft 3.

Maybe rapha or Toxjq could do it?
Also I reckon Makaveli could surprise a few, I know he's played well at Russian lans recently.
It's the ol' teacher/student syndrome. No matter how good you've gotten, almost everyone would be wary of being shown up by their (former) superior. So he may unwittingly undermine his game by being too cautious or respectful.
Will be interesting nevertheless!
Actually, it's too close to call. :>
av3k owill kill the machine ;p
i'm betting my money on av3k.
