ImageJohan "Toxic" Quick, Alessandro "stermy" Avallone and Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski could be seen playing Quake 3 again this year, as they have signed up for the ESWC Masters of Athens.

The signup list for the Athens tournament looks impressive with the ESWC champion Alexei 'Cypher' Yanushevsky, the GameGune champion Maciej 'av3k' Krzykowski or the ESWC bronze medalist Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson signed up so far. For av3k this would be a chance to close the year with something more positive than not defending his ESWC title due to visa issues.

Paul 'czm' Nelson has expressed the intention of going as well, while Anton 'Cooller' Singov and Sander 'Vo0' Kaasjager are considering.

The most interesting signups so far are Johan 'toxjq' Quick and Alessandro 'stermy' Avallone, gamers who were last seen playing Quake over a year ago. The former SK player from Sweden would be coming back after he completely dominated the Quake 4 scene for two years. For stermy ESWC Athens would be a break from playing FIFA in the Championship Gaming Series.

That they signed up does not mean that they will play, though. Toxic is still undecided whether he likes CPMA Quake 3 enough to play and is waiting to find out what kind of monitors will be used in Athens. Stermy explains his intentions in today's interview with SK Gaming.

The deadline for the signups ends on Sunday, September 21. The list of the 12 selected players will be announced one day after that.
