One of the most renown Chinese E-sports leagues, China E-sports Games will have this year’s tours put on hold until they find a new head sponsor. The first tour of CEG2008 was initially scheduled to take place in Shanghai from May 30 to June 1, but was later postponed to September 12 due to the Olympic torch relay.
However, the event, which is organized by China’s government, has officially been canceled due to lack of head sponsor.
The league hosted four tours last year with eight different tournaments each. Warcraft III and Starcraft tournaments were constantly in the media spotlight with numbers of Chinese and Korean star players participating.
The Korea telecommunication company SK telecom succeeded Intel as the head sponsor of CEG last year and helped them give out totally $151,000 throughout a year. The withdrawal of SKt leaves the rest of three tours in question.
