i thought we would not have wc3 in 2009 cuz of sc2.. but it seems that we will xD
greate news
http://www.wcreplays.com/page?section=interviews&id=34
ah, how mature am I :)
but it seems greece & athens are underestimated too much, no cs 1.6..
Yes, I do find it a dodgy esport game especially incompare with Quake 3 (or LIVE) StarCraft and WarCraft. It's not that bad as World of WarCraft. (don't even let me start with WoW, ugh..) Even thought I played it myself for years since the first few beta releases.
CS flaws because if it's bugs, a big lack of map rotation even when organisations try to implent new maps into the standard warmaps rotation, no single update since begin 2000's, a huge cheating problem which is today still not fixed, arrogant against people playing the game online and there are many more reasons. It's a slowly bleeding scene and there are better alternatives for CS. (example CoD 4, W:ET, RTCW etc).
This is said with my personal opinion. That people like the game more or like the teams more. Fine for them, but i'm just trying to look from a different view then the horde. As since the horde engulfs people with flames that gives critism on their beloved game.
Haha, 2003 falls for me under "'since begin 2000's,''
The first pro gamers are from StarCraft in my humble opinion. Quake 3 Arena might be also pretty in the early birds if you count in Fatal1ty.
Thanks for your comment. [+]ssed
nuff said -.-
kkthxbye aka nuffsaid, fucks, lol, l33ts etc.
Yes, CS has some bugs and no updates. Yes, CS lacks map rotation (tho this is the fault of tournament organizers). Yes, CS has a lot of hackers ONLINE. But its a stable, simple game with the biggest player base of all Team base FPS games out there. And its really fun to watch CS clan wars. Pubbing gets real boring real fast.
"Why are these games not good enough? why would be games that still get updates on maps, mods or patches be inferior then a game that isn't updated for years?" 1 word.... GAMEPLAY! or is that 2 word... no idea... anyway...
CoD 4 = CSS with better graphics and guns that fire 50 bullets a second! Fun to pub, but CWs are just boring (to watch) (opinion). And really no updates in the world are gonna help this game, sry. The "=CSS" part just kills it.
W:ET = Very fun for pub play and CWs aren't bad either but the game is out of control, as in a billion mods, new maps and shit every week, a not that big player base or that many competitive teams to take the 1st spot from CS (at least that was the case when i played, don't follow it that much today). And the teamwork to skill ratio is much more unbalanced then in CS. I must add it was the most fun team game I ever played.
RTCW = I actually didn't play... guess its not that good then (joke). Wouldn't like to judge the game since i didn't play it, but I'll take wild guess and say CS has a 20 times bigger player base. :p
I must add that all the games here have bugs and glitches that are just not dramatized like the ones in CS since those games don't have that much money rolling around them.
Now you give me another argument why if CS is "dodgy" the games you listed aren't. I must remind you that you are free to call me a RETARD since I am one for being provoked by someone's "opinion". I will not hide behind that RETARDED word, for then there is NO point in arguing is there... Most of the things I display in my post are not based solely on my opinion, rather game experience.
Hope to hear from you soon,
love zpectral. -.-
Counter-Strike 1.6 has been defeated by Counter-Strike : Source according to stats from Steampowered. The past year we see that CS:S is growing and CS 1.6 is falling slowly away. (Steampowered.com) How ever, Call of Duty 4 has twice as much players these days then Counter-Strike: Source on publics. To power this statement even more, do also see this on several Lan-Parties and Online Tournaments such as ESL and ClanBase. Call of Duty 4 population is growing faster then a few bunnies on an open field.
A raw copy paste from Steampowered, Valve's offical record and un-edited.
1. Current: 71,227 - Peak today: 82,223 - Counter-Strike: Source
2. Current: 60,299 - Peak today: 69,944 - Counter-Strike
So the argument that Counter-Strike 1.6 or CS: Source has more players and that it is a stable scene has been nullyfied instantly. CS 1.6 has also a very outdated netcode and source code (idtech 2/Quake World engine). So It's now based on a 14(!) Year old code that was designed for PC's and Internet connections from that time. If you compare CS 1.6 with CS:S in ammount of bugs and registration of hit detection. You will notice that CS:S defeats this. There was a calculation circulating on the net some-where which confirms this theory. In my humble opinion, with today's standards in gaming, it is kinda strange that we are seeing an outdated & unupdated game as a main eSports game.
Also I will never call someone a retard if they are able to have a constructive conversation and argument about ''some'' topic. I actually respect one that challenges my ideas. It gives me a more insight on what I do and see. ;-)
Thanks for a good reply. [+]

If we look at public I have to add that most players on Balkan play on cracked version of CS (I'd dare to say 75%) we even have non steam leagues. And I believe that's the case in other parts of the world as well, at least to some extent.
I'm don't want to go count teams on ESL but i bet CS would have most active teams on ladders (every team on the ladder is active i guess since they kick teams when they go inactive for too long).
Anyway, I'd rather play a game with a 20 year old netcode and source code that has good gameplay than the newest game with the best graphics and bad gameplay, as I do. But that's me.
I have CSS (I think I played it once just before i tried ProMod, once as well :) and CoD4 and W:ET and TF2 and WoW and i played them all, even played Q3 and WC3 a lot (but since i like team games more it was mostly CTF and 2v2/3/4's) but i have always returned to CS after I've got bored with these games.
If I had one wish it would be CS with newer netcode, sourcecode and fixed bugs (well it would have to be a gaming related wish =).
Well maybe someone, someday, makes a team fps game that can end the era of CS, and when that happens I'll be the first to say it, but it has not happened yet. :)
Well, now I feel stupid for engaging into this (off topic) argument, but what the hell.
Over and out.
on cs anybody could get killed by a noob, but on quake thats different
