Before the Games Convention 2008 actually started, a single elimination tournament with 256 participants has been launched by the german eSport organisation pod virtual gaming, who were hosting this Cup in cooperation with their partner hama.

Joshua 'Kr0ne' Begehr managed to qualify for the quarter final by beating 6 players and losing just one out of the 13 matches he played. The top four players qualified for the quarter final which was held offline in Leipzig at the Games Convention 2008.

Furthermore, 4 lucky visitors of the GC 2008 had the chance to play a qualification-tournament at the Hama booth and place themselves in the quarter final of the Hama Soccer Cup 2008.

Kr0ne seized his chance and won the final 6:0 against Dennis 'dEnNiZ' Jackson, taking home a 500 € voucher. Meanwhile second and third received a 250 € voucher and the 4-8 placed players got professional gaming equipment courtesy of hama.
