A collection of our on-site video produced over the last couple of days at the Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) grand finals in San Jose, USA. The video collection over 20 videos and includes interviews with some of the most talented gamers in Quake III, DotA, Warcraft III and Counter Strike.
Day One
Defense of the Ancients (DotA)
- Whisper from EG talks SK victory
A clearly happy Whisper talks about defeating SK for the first time, attributing the win to superior hero picks which helped them win every team fight. He's a charismatic North American and one of the most confident gamers who I've ever witnessed, stopping a video interview mid way to organise a party with his drinking buddies – SK.
Quake III
- griffin talks about his ESWC performance
“I wasn't even playing Quake”, a strange admission for the Canadian who was knocked out early but admitted it was likely as he hadn't practiced enough - “I deserved to lose”. The North American predicts rapha, fox, Cypher and Zero4 as the semi-finalist, despite the fact that Zero4 is playing awful compared to online.
- chance talks about beating Cooller
“John [Zero4] told me to beat Cooller and I do as John says”. An honest American says it looks good for both Americans to progress in a short interview in which he says he was lucky to beat a Cooller who is suffering from a lack of practice.
- Cooller on Zero4 and an unfair system
A long interview with the Russian legend who explains why he doesn't like facing tough opponents early on, and when he “little Cooller” pops out, he wants it to be a boy. Definitely an interview not to be missed.
- SK.rapha on beating Cypher
After beating the universally accepted favourite in Quake III, Cypher, SK.rapha is frank about how achieved his unbeaten run in the first group stages and who he accepts to place top three in the event.
Counter Strike 1.6
- Archi: "We get better by playing Q3"
fnatics Oscar 'Archi' Torgersen discusses how he and the other players “enjoy Quake III as a tool to help improve their aim”. The interview also includes top three predictions as well as the reason behind the 16-0 whitewash against MiBr, and their subsequent defeats to German teams Alternate and Mousesports.
- RobbaN rounds up the day
RobbaN talks about the grim realities of tournament and traveling, including SpawN's illness. The defeat to eSTRO hasn't affected their confidence, and mTw is the only team they wouldn't like to face in the first round. Top three predictions? Watch and find out.
- Zonic on PGS/MYM victory
The universally feared team known as mTw is pleased to finally beat MYM, the only team which they've continually struggled against in the past. Zonic admits he's pleased with the win, even though they weren't “even playing our A game” and that MYM are under pressure from their organisation. fnatic? “I don't fear them”.
- mooN on defeating fnatic
Opening with the winning moment from Mousesports victory over fnatic, the video interview centres on a clearly exuberant mooN who “didn't even expect to get close”, but admits “we're just happy” and that being realistic the team can only expect to reach the second group stage.
Alex 'TheSlash' Muller (SK's manager)
- SK update
Alex gives his impression about how the organisations teams are fairing in the tournament, discussing a must win game in DotA, how Rapha is now the player to beat in Quake III, a disappointing loss to the Chinese EHONOUR team in female Counter Strike, and how he believes SpawN's illness won't affect the teams outcome in the male Counter Strike tournament. How many Warcraft III players does he expect to reach the playoff? You'll have to watch and find out.
- Previews ESWC
Alex gives an overview of what he expects from SK and who he expects to win each of the ESWC competitions, except for Trackmania' which receives a shrug.
Day Zero
A collection of pre-ESWC video interviews, generally shorter, sharper and the interviewees more optimistic about their chances.
