The ESWC 2008 Grand Final has another upset, this time the "fifth race" lost to his countryman - the Undead player Reign.Seo Woo 'ReiGn' Kang together with Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang, Yoan 'ToD' Merlo and Valentine 'FiX' Krulikovsky are seeded in Group C.
The first three players are the biggest favourites to advance further and if most were thinking that it will be a battle between Reign and ToD to advance as number two from the group, then now the tables have turned.
The Undead player was on his A game and defeated the "fifth race" with a 2:0 victory and now Moon will have to defeat ToD in order to advance further.
In other games the defending ESWC champion Seong Deok 'SoJu' Lee won his team-mate June 'Lyn' Park with a score 2:1. Daniel 'miou' Holthuis lost his mirror match to another human expert Xiang 'TH000' Huang.

- WhO and TeD fighting!
#1 ReiGn 6 05:03
#2 ToD 6 05:04
#3 Moon 6 04:03
#4 FiX 0 02:04
Both ending up 2:1 in their group and both being eliminated on map differential.
A: #1 Sky(5-2) #2 WhO(5-3)
B: #1 Sase(6-1) #2 TH000(4-2)
C: #1 ReiGn(5-3) #2 ToD(5-4)
D: #1 TeD(6-2) #2 Lyn(4-4)
TeD has been playing downright super amazing so far, he had HoT, Soju and Lyn in his group.
Wouldn't it be great to see 2 three way tie breakers.
Each match result
awards “group points” (hereafter referred as points) as follows: 3 for a win, 0 for a defeat. At the
end of the group, the following criteria apply orderly to determine the distinct position of each
participant:
a) Higher number of points obtained in all the group matches;
b) Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the remaining
tied participants;
c) Higher score difference obtained in the group matches played among the remaining tied
participants
ESWC 2008 Grand Final Regulations

of cause moon fans now suddenly start to think that the rules are broken.
the rules are published 13 aug, y not complain earlier?
a) Higher number of points obtained in all the group matches;
Moon won 2 matches so he got 6 points.
Tod won 2 matches so he got 6 points.
Reign won 2 matches so he got 6 points.
b) Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the remaining
tied participants;
Remove all the group results that include Fix (since he is not included in this tie) u get:
Moon won 1 match so he got 3 points.
Tod won 1 match so he got 3 points.
ReiGn won 1 match so he got 3 points.
c) Higher score difference obtained in the group matches played among the remaining tied
participants; (if by score they are refering to map score we get this):
Moon won 1 matches and got 2 map wins.
Tod won 1 matches and got 2 map wins.
ReiGn won 1 matches and got 2 map wins.
d) Higher score difference obtained in all the group matches;
Moon won 2 matches and got 4 map wins.
Tod won 2 matches and got 4 map wins.
ReiGn won 2 matches and got 4 map wins.
e) Higher number of points obtained in tie-breaker matches played among the remaining
tied participants (tie-breaker matches are organized specifically for the occasion);
NO TIE-BREAKER!!
so explain how they reach the conclusion that tod and reign advance and moon doesnt?
c) Higher score difference obtained in the group matches played AMONG the remaining tied
participants; (if by score they are refering to map score we get this):
ReiGn 2-0 Moon,1-2 ToD --> ReiGn 3-2 (map wins/losses)
ToD 2-1 ReiGn,1-2 Moon--->ToD 3-3
Moon 0-2 ReiGn,2-1 ToD--->Moon 2-3
=> ReiGn 1st and ToD 2nd,Moon's out
the only quality tournaments are pgl bwwi and blizzcon, some others good too ofc but eswc has always been a joke organizationwise.. you get to see 1/4 of all the matches and last year it was even less and now they count maps?! wtf are they doing seriously....

Reign won 2 matches so he got 6 points.

(wins) (loss)(difference)
Moon 2 - 2 = 0
Tod 3 - 3 = 0
ReiGn 3 - 2 = 1
This means that reign advances because he got the highest score difference. Which leaves us with Tod and Moon.
d) Higher score difference obtained in all the group matches;
(wins) (loss)(difference)
Moon 4 - 2 = 2
Tod 5 - 3 = 2
SURPRISE!!! they are stilled TIED!!! Both have the same score difference!
e) Higher number of points obtained in tie-breaker matches played among the remaining
tied participants (tie-breaker matches are organized specifically for the occasion);
NO TIE-BREAKER WAS PLAYED!!
Moon got cheated out of ESWC 2008
but its still fucked upp that they count maps
