Meet Your Makers (MYM) has released their Call of Duty 4 squad due to a lack of results, only days after the team finished third at the Multiplay i34 event.
The former The Last Resort (TLR) team attracted the attention of the G7 giant after finishing second at both the Crossfire Devotti Challenge 4 (CDC4) and Multiplay i33 event earlier this year. The Danish organisation followed SK Gaming into CoD4 but crucially choose to wait until after the CDC4 event before selecting a team.
A high profile departure from TLR resulted in a formal inquiry regarding MYM's behavior, the move was blasted as a "blatant contradiction of G7 aims/goals" by the TLR management but the G7 ultimately sided with MYM. Craig Levine, the acting head of the G7 in 2008, stated that “open communication would have helped ease some of the unrest, but ultimately the decision was made by the players, who did not extend the professional courtesy" reaffirming the importance of having players contracted to "avoid these exact situations."
The teams results slumped in the online interval where a group stage exit in the Clanbase Eurocup highlighted the LAN centric nature of the team. Stevie 'stat' Szabo was removed but later reintroduced to the lineup after the team finished third at both a local UK LAN (SGL) and the iPOWER Games 2008, losing to the eventual winners on both occasions.
Mark Peter Fries, chief operations officer of MYM, explained the removal on the MYM website, “we only wish to feature top three teams and when a team is given the opportunity and tools to evolve into that and do not succeed after a decent amount of time, then they do not fit into our strategy.”
Team achievements:
3rd SGL Summer Slam
3rd iPOWER Games 2008
5-6th Antwerp eSports Festival
9-12th the-eXperience
3rd Multiplay i34
The team finished 5-6th at AEF, the most competitive competition ever to be held in CoD4 where they lost to eventual winners Team Pandemic in the upper bracket and Evil Geniuses in the lower bracket, who finished fourth.
Team EG would prove to be a thorn in MYM's side as the team narrowly lost in an epic encounter in the TEX upper bracket quarter finals, 17 – 19. Team EG would later go onto win the event but MYM were beaten by local rivals Reason Gaming in their first loser bracket match, falling to their worst ever LAN finish; 9-12th.

The team were publicly under a lot of pressure both from the community, themselves and the high expectations of the MYM brand. A third place finish at i34, the least competitive summer LAN, went someway to fix the problem but “unfortunately the result comes too late”. The team faced Evil Geniuses at all three summer LAN's, only losing to two European opponents, where the North Americans along with Belgian LowLandLions, each won and finished second at one of the three events.
MYM have remained cryptic regarding whether they plan to look for a replacement squad.

Why they dont release the CS squad? They are far away of the team which shocks the world in 2007. Im not meaning they must release the CS squad, but it is too hard to have a perfect team. MYM is losing a lot of as a organisation with this changes.
Most organisations need the publicity though and don't mind journalists (they would actually prefer if the news was as close to the information they sent out) using statistics, information and quotations provided. So things like government reports (facts) or statements (press releases) are readily available and literally spammed to news agencies where they'll do basic fact checking and pick away at the information to find a context and something 'sellable'.
The MYM COO, Denmark Mark Peter Fries said
It's unfortunate that we have to let them go, but again, just like the recent release of our FIFA team, it’s a matter of politics and top 3 results. As harsh as it may sound, then a team that cannot provide the organization with reasonable results on LAN do not fit into our strategy. We only wish to feature TOP 3 teams and when a team is given the opportunity and tools to evolve into that and do not succeed after a decent amount of time, then they do not fit into our strategy. With that said, they as a relatively young team did pretty well, especially with their recent 3rd place at the I34 LAN in the UK, unfortunately the result comes to late. They are all nice guys and I wish them all the best for the future.
(_evan's prolly the best e-sports journalist out there, too bad he almost only features CoD4)
where is the point in posting some statements with few text? its way more interesting to read, if the statements interweave with the text.
and where is the point in giving sources all the time? do you want the author to link the MYM-news, which is basically only two statements from officials queued one after another?
edit: Statement, of course.
and how do i know? ask me
any interview/statement in television or the newspapers, they are all cut. sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the atmopshere or mood the author wants to put the article on.
and mym realeasing a team after another, or especially cod4 teams being released like there is no tommorrow, this is obviously no good news for the cod4 community.
and its not like the author is making up words on his own, he is simply using some of the words, which mym itself released on their website.
and please dont come up with crap like 'oh sk is such a serious page, the items should be all neutral and objective'. then "you have no idea what you're talking about" (...)
Matches are interesting, graphics and gameplay are modern, lan results are unpredictable. Ok, they don't have a TV mode yet, but it's almost there. So, if I were someone in the crew of these mgcs, I would find another team till CoD4 TV isn't ready.
I know that prizes aren't as big as in the Counter-Strike events, also know that the biggest tournaments still avoid taking CoD4 (don't really know why), but I think this will change very soon, because if someone starts playing today, that guy/girl will not select Counter-Strike, because graphics are low, top players have a half decade (or even more) advantage, so there is absolute no chance to be pro in it, checking the question from a competitive aspect.
If todays players select an fps game, they will surely select CoD4. Maybe it's the game with the most active players, or biggest fanbase, who knows. Some statistics saying "yes", some others "no". But anyways I think the CoD4 scene is more than big enough for advertising.... and the newbie who just installs the game will not care about what mouse are the CS players using, (s)he will care about what products are the top CoD4 players using, and will be more than happy to buy it!
Back to the lower prizes question... ok, if prizes are lower, then costs must be lower too. Well, I know that usually not the prizes are the money that mgcs use to live. I just think if the mgcs feel they spend too much for a team, they should just support their players with the most important things, like travel/accomodition costs. I don't really think that in the current level of the game it's so important to win every tournament. Even the Counter-Strike squads isn't winning all the time, they are always just on the top 5 or 10, and sometimes finishing 1st. Tournaments would be boring if always the best would win, it would be like Formula 1 in the Schumacher era... for me it was awesome, but I think many haters stopped watching races, or get bored in that time.
Finally from a third party view, top multigaming clans like SK-Gaming or MeetYourMakers are determinative market participants of eSports, and if they make a new strategic decision, the smaller ones will follow them too. So, sadly they can easily take the chances of growing games aiming for eSports.
Since the DoTA hasnt been number one at DreamHack the last time I bet it's their turn to feel the knife in the bag.. if MYM wanna follow their strategi, as Mercy says in the statement :p
