Even though Team EG USA was not able to qualify for the ESWC Grand Final, they now got invited to attend. The team failed to qualify through the US Online Qualifier as well as the ESWC Masters in Paris.
Evil Geniuses now got invited for the ESWC Grand Final being held in San Jose in less than two weeks. The team was not able to qualify before through Online Qualifiers and also got knocked out at the ESWC Masters 2008 in Paris.
They placed last in their groupstage during the ESWC Masters and only managed to get a tie against DCC. Scott 'evolution' Cavallero has left the team due to focusing on his school and work and therefor Team EG recruited Fadil 'Nepo-' Canovic and prepare for the upcoming events.
The team was unable to qualify through the Online Qualifier because of the KODE5 Finals also being held at the same time. Now they get their chance after all attending the ESWC Grand Final from August 25th to 27th.

They aren't different from any other team that hasn't been able to qualify. Bad move by the organisation to start inviting random teams (I do consider this to be random as they did not in any way qualify or made a tremendous performance granting them some sort of wildcard)
bad call imo.
LINKAGE-_- is right though. The cost to send a team of 5 players, + a manager in some cases, is really expensive and not being able to make the trip which ends up leaving open spots that ESWC need to fill. Proof of this would be ESWC inviting pure gaming to the grand final. Pure finished third in the US online qualifier and they were given a spot when the US qualifier was originally only supposed to have two. Basically ESWC is doing what they have to to fill all the slots in the tournament on short notice, even if there are better teams out there. and Remember n!faculty was also given an auto birth after finishing 3rd in the German qualifier so it's not only American teams getting the auto births.
...holy wall of text :| sorry about that :)
Team EG in US is like Chinese Athletes in Olympic Games in Beijing. They get higher points etc. in their home Country.
