More of Your Money kills Warcraft 3

Not long ago someone somewhere tried to explain why Warcraft 3 teams fall apart. What he forgot to mention is a certain team's harmful influence on the WC3 market. An influence that could even lead to the collapse of the WC3L.Warcraft 3 is by no means a dead game, the competitions are exciting as always and the Warcraft 3 Champions League is one of the most important events in the game to have a presence in. However, WC3 teams are being dissolved rather than built.
One can always say that this is because the teams have no money. But how do you explain it when a solvent team unloads their Warcraft 3 team because they choose to?
The monthly wages that players want to receive are between $500 for players that never win anything and above $5,000 for the good ones. If you want to have the absolute superstar team, then you need to be prepared to pay over $15,000 each month. Or closer to $30,000 if you are willing to believe the crazier rumours that go around.
For what? For two seasons of the WC3L a year where the team can win $7,500 for first place?
This is why Warcraft 3 teams dissolve their squads. To put things into perspective, Jang "Moon" JaeHo's wage alone can support the world's number one Counter-Strike squad (and you will still have money left over). Such a team goes to six events every year with a prize purse larger than that of the WC3L.
The inflation in Warcraft 3 player wages has hurt the industry. Organisations will prefer to focus on solo players. Teams in Warcraft 3 will keep getting weaker and the team competitions will become less interesting.
The WC3L is already suffering from it. Now it has two scenarios ahead of it. One is that it will implode altogether. The other is that it will become a predominantly Chinese league because that is where it will still be possible to assemble a competitive team cheaply.
A team whose name I will not mention. Let's call it The Unnamed Team (TUT). They came in with a plan to bring trophies from the most important events as quickly as possible. Not only that, but with the intention of getting a monopoly. That means they did not make any compromises - they attracted top players with wages the scene had never seen before.
The only reason why they were able to do so was because they were spending much more money than was actually coming in from sponsors. Those are the benefits of having rich investors and not having to balance the books for a year. Or three years.
Whether intentionally or not (take your pick), TUT caused the salaries in the entire Warcraft 3 scene to rise. Players comparable to TUT's stars began asking the question: "Why am I not getting as much as they are?"
You know the rest of the story. TUT made sure they had the best players and that no other organisation would want to pay the upkeep of a team that could challenge theirs. Now they are the only kid left on the playground. They achieved invincibility. But at what expense?
At the expense of destroying the trophy they were after in the first place. Bravo.
BRAVO!

In loving memory of all the WC3L teams that have decided not to go on.

"Having an entire Warcraft 3 team in your ranks is not worth it."
Having an entire Warcraft 3 team in your ranks that would compete for the top spots is simply not worth it. Not with StarCraft 2 about to bring everything to ground zero. And especially not with the inflated player salaries. The monthly wages that players want to receive are between $500 for players that never win anything and above $5,000 for the good ones. this you can see easily by looking at the olympics. at the one hand you have basketball players filling huge arenas earning millions of $. on the other hand you have ..let's say swimmers, that don't get hardly anything.
with esports it's kinda the same. if you have certain games, players, events drawing a huge amount of attention and there are always some folks earning some money with it.
players like grubby and moon are famous in the scene more than most of the other players. they draw much attention, therefore they make money out of it.
therefore i don't know what's that rumors here is all about.
Anyone can argue that a TEAM of 4-5 players is beneficial. Even beyond that of TEAM leagues.
I mean, there are a myriad of reasons to support having a TEAM instead of single players, even if there weren't team leagues around anymore.
This prize list proves that, beyond any doubt.

True some of those figures will change, especially since the ESL is now focusing on a new game; WoW.
In regards to big teams killing team leagues. I think that's malarky. When I ask players (mainly from fnatic) like Minhyuk, FoCuS or Kei
"why do you keep playing warcraft3?"
The answer is always the same;
"because I love playing it"
Big teams and small teams (financially) will always exist. There will always be that gap. That's just how the world works unfortunately.
Money may kill many aspects of E-Sports, but its people like us (community members, staff, players etc) that make the most significant changes.

If the WC3L dies, for whatever reason. That's sad, but I am pretty sure the scene will move on and new competitions will be born. And don't forget that, the people running the leagues wont die with them. There is nothing stopping them from starting a new project that will be even better than before.
but they still play football in gb and chelsea is not the clear favourite as they should be..
i agree with you

But the thing is, you're losing it. You write articles based on a couple of facts, blow them up so they fit your picture and now even the gaming community whose collective intelligence is anything but high sees through it. As soon as you are confronted with counter-arguments all you do is saying "but my original arguments are still valid". Which they are. Ofc money/MYM created some imbalance and some clans had to feel the purging powers of capitalism, but in the end the fittest survive. There are like 7 teams totally capable of reaching the wc3l offline finals, the highest amount I can recall. Plus NGL, WPL, Rotk and whatever there comes. There are more top clans than ever. Wc3 team competition is alive.
Now reply with your generic "My point still stands".
Seriously one of the most dumb article i have ever read
Remember positive steps will see your goals, your idles, they too dreamt of their day.
Nevertheless, i think it's appropiate to say that it's up to the organisations on how much they want to offer their players. No one can stop that or influence that. What the organisations can do, however, is not to look to bring in an influx of talent but rather provide a better consolidated training base for their current players to improve. Perhaps thats the solution that other teams should be seeking to win their counterparts, and not by just adopting the lose-win solution of buying players alone, where money determines who wins and such.
