SK Gaming's players are doing very well at the QuakeCon tournament so far. Here is an interview with their experiences from the event.John "ZeRo4" Hill is on a mission to win his fourth QuakeCon tournament this year. This would mean that it would take another three years for someone to get to that level.
ZeRo4 has beaten his first opponents without particular problems and will be playing Chance "chance" Lacina in the quarterfinal tomorrow. He is also in the upper bracket final of the CTF tournament so he will definitely come back home with money.
How are you enjoying yourself here?
ZeRo4 Everything is good. QuakeCon is always fun so I am having a great time. I really enjoy playing this new modified version of Quake 3. I have always liked played new games and new maps and it adds the creativity element to the gameplay.
Has this given you an edge here?
ZeRo4 I have always thought it was one of my strong points that I learn new maps quickly, how to control map, what to control and what is important and I can adapt to people's styles quicker when the maps are still at the beginning stages of their evolution.
Do you feel like the favourite?
ZeRo4 You never know in tournaments. I definitely played a lot with the top US players. We all made it to the top 8. Of course you have Vo0, fox and Cypher and theya re always good competition.
How is the CTF tournament going for you?
ZeRo4 It is going great so far. We are in the winners bracket finals. We are the favourite team here. It is viju, cl0ck and knossos. Viju and cl0ck were on cloud9, the only team that beat 519 at QCon. I play flag defence and we haven't been capped on once.
What do you expect to see tomorrow?
ZeRo4 I play chance. I won the majority of games we've played online but you don't know what is going to happen in a tournament. I am going to get a good rest and I hope to do my best.
Rapha is also in the quarterfinal of the upper bracket and will be playing Alexei "Cypher" Yanushevsky tomorrow. He beat Mark "cl0ck" McGrail to go this far in the event.
How are you enjoying yourself here at QCon?
rapha It's been ok. I've just had a lot of issues again with hardware. Also, QuakeLive was not working when I had a match. And I'm sleep deprived. But other than that, it has been really good.
How are you enjoying QL?
rapha I enjoy it, I like the direction that it is going in but there are some changes that should be done. It's still the beta, though. Overall, I think they are going in the right direction. It has been a fun tournament so far.
How do you feel about your chances?
rapha If I can stay focused and calm and think clearly like I did today, it's going to be close when I play Cypher tomorrow. He has had a bit of momentum recently at tournaments so it will be difficult but I have to find a way to do it.
Who do you see as the favourite?
rapha As of right now ZeRo4 and Cypher seem to be the favourites for the 1on1. I have seen Z4 play in practice and he seems really well-rounded on every single map and it seems like he is hitting his stride when he needs to. He is playing like he used to play.
Cypher, like I said, seems to have a lot of momentum and his game looks really sound. Also, as far as skill goes, his rockets are really good and this game seems to favour rockets, which gives him an extra edge.
