Balearikus Party unlikely to be held in 2008.
The Balearikus Party 8 Edition, a LAN event held at the Palma Arena in Mallorca, is unlikely to be held in 2008.
The event was initially rescheduled earlier in the year to August 10–16th, but three weeks ago the organisation behind the event decided that “after months of work” in which they had “been unable to overcome certain barriers” had to postpone the Balearic Island event because of “budget problems”.
The event was planning to run tournaments for almost every competitive eSport title including Call of Duty 4, Counter Strike 1.6, Counter Strike Source, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, FIFA 08, Quake 4 (1v1 and 4v4), Need for Speed: Pro Street, Track Mania Nations and Warcraft III.
The event was the fourth and final stop in the European summer calendar for Call of Duty 4 and boasted a marginal prize money increase over what the Multiplay i34 event is offering, €12,000. The two events were initially thought to clash as the 'i34 event ends on August 11th but the Spanish organisation stressed that the schedule allowed CoD4 teams to attend both events.
Team EG, one of the two North American attending the European summer series, finished fourth at the Antwerp eSports Festival last weekend, had expressed an interest in attending the event in a podcast recorded two weeks ago.
The event president Joaquim Rosselló, initially expressed an interest to release “pleasing news in the next couple of weeks” has failed on that deadline and to respond to SK Gaming's attempts to open up a dialog which means the event is unlikely to be held in 2008.
