Quake III: No visa, no Cypher at GameGune

Alexei "Cypher" Yanushevsky will be the biggest absentee from GameGune. Apart from this name, the participants list has had an interesting reshuffle.

As a citizen of Belarus, Alexei 'Cypher' Yanyshevsky needs a visa in order to travel to Spain. He has failed to obtain one and will therefore miss the tournament in Bilbao. He will be missed because after winning the ESWC Masters of Paris in style Cypher was the number one favourite to triumph at GameGune.

The other players that have canceled their participation are Andreas 'ArrW' Ihrfors, Marcel 'k1llsen' Paul and the 2002 WCG silver medalist Alvaro "Akiles" Romero. It cannot be said that the event will be much less interesting than the ESWC Masters, though. The Masters absentees Anton 'Cooller' Singov, Nikita "Nike" Amochaev and Rafik "LoSt_CaUzE" Bryant should make up for some of the losses.

Av3k wins GameGune 2008 in a 4 overtime thriller

The three day GameGune 2008 Quake 3 tournament has came to a well deserved end, with the Polish wonder boy Av3k taking the first place and RazerJ second. Both earning 3000 and 2000 euros respectively.

MiBr wins GameGune 2008

Made in Brazil just won the GameGune 2008 defeating mousesports on the second map. They now take home the 12.000€ prize money as well as the fame of being first again.

The GameGune Q3 Allstars event brings news of a large prize purse increase and the community getting a say in who gets to go opening a chance for Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager to attend the event.

Quake 3's resilience is almost eerie. Gamegune Q3 Allstars will be another professional competition to look forward to this year. SK's John "ZeRo4" Hill and Shane "rapha" Hendrixson are invited.

kinda bullshit, im sorry but thats one thing they need to work on (organizers)... hes one of the best players in the world n cant participate at GameGune only cuz of visa problems... in any other "real" sports (soccer or whatever) there would be never such problems about a visa for one of the pros, in my opinion a tournaments goal is to detect the best gamer (which want to participate in it) n then one of da favourites cant do it only cuz of fuckin visa problems... kinda lame... im not a fan of cypher or whatever but im a sportsman so i like to c good games with the best of the bests challengin each other...whatever i think esports needs to get bigger first to handle such problems much more simply...

the thing is, again, you really can't compare esports to real sport in this case, because big sportive guys are high profiles known by a lot of people, so that's really not a problem for them to get a visa anytime, while esport players are just like anyone when they go to the national office to get a visa... 2bad for Cypher tho, q3 doesnt have a lot of big tournament and this one would have been interesting...

He can compare the organizations, clearly the one backing up cypher is not doing their work good, because visa issues are so 98'. Having a visa this day is as easy as 1 2 3, but if you are not into what you are doing .. then you get news like that.

Thats because getting into the USA is a lot harder for most countries. Which is surprising considering your airports poor security.

You really are ignorant. I love the USA. I travel there frequently on business and the people are always nice to me and I return that curtesy when it is shown to me.

I was simply saying that since 9/11 the security at USA airports has been stepped up, and with that certain countries have a harder time getting through customs than others.

I for one, have never had a problem entering your country LEGALLY. ( I resent the implication that Canadians as well as Mexicans are just 'border hoppers')

Next time you open your mouth think about what you are about to say. Because its your attitude which gives people the wrong impression about your country. And most everyone I have met from the USA are not as ignorant as you, and if they are (to others customs or what have you) they do not make such un-educated comments like you have today. You are an embarrassment to your country as well as humanity.

Actually, the fact that they hop in to your country with the very bug numbers is a flaw in your own system. Actually, all your system is fucked up. I work with the stockmarkets and I follow the economy news etc .. clearly, usa makes no sense and everything is fucked up.

They are the biggest assholes(us employe).They just reject you for no reason.I know an example where a girl had a full scholarship at Princeton (ranked 1 university) and they refused to give her a visa.How stupid can you be?No,no not stupid this is actually...undescribable.Stealing a girl's future.And that's just 1 example.Another example was a black women from the embassy who refused to give visa for almost all people who were at her office and another one gave the visa for others.How is it possible to make us embassy a lottery?Because you need luck to get one even if you really deserve it.
