Hafu: "Orz is a dude bending over"

ImageLady Milestone is what one might call the seventeen-year-old Rumay "Hafu" Wang. Her team won MLG Orlando last weekend making her the first woman to ever win such a prestigious coed major. And she wasn't even aware, she says.

It would be unjust to say that only Hafu's story is interesting. The fact is that the entire Orz team deserves to make headlines after what they did.

Hafu and her team mates Glick and Rhaegyn represented MoB Gaming at the previous MLG in San Diego but did badly and Godfather removed them from the team. Signed up as Orz, they entered MLG Orlando as complete underdogs with one of the worst seeds they could possibly get.

"Godfather's not one of my favorite guys, I'll give you that."
Orz ripped through the entire event and took out almost every major team out there. The spree of victories included taking sweet revenge on MoB's new team in the upper bracket quarterfinal. Hafu put up a sign that said "Hi Godfather" on Gotfrag's stream for that occasion.

Rumour has it that many teams have already contacted Orz about playing for them. A team with one of the most outstanding female gamers in the world is definitely a very interesting transfer target. Even if Hafu herself didn't even know she was the first one to win such a high-profile tournament playing against men.

When you won the MLG Orlando event did you know that you were the first woman to win a coed tournament of such magnitude?

No, I didn't! I've never kept up with pro-gaming, but I have seen quite a few of females make their presence on gaming websites like SK-Gaming and GameRiot.

Do you see your achievement as a milestone? Yourself as a role model?

No, not really. There are some great female WoW players out there. I.e. Noxn, a shadow priest on Mannoroth who sits near the top of every bracket.

ImageWhat was all this Godfather thing about? Is there any beef between you and Vinnie?

Nah, the sign was a joke, but honestly it did feel good beating out MoB. Noktyn actually made the sign (my handwriting is a bit better), and Spoh handed it to me. He's not one of my favorite guys though, I'll give you that.

Have you spoken to Godfather after you've won? Did he make an attempt to re-contract you?

Nope.

What changed between San Diego and Orlando that made you win this time?

Personally I was a lot more relaxed. We didn't arrive at Orlando with any pressure from sponsors to win it. I choked up on our first match in SD against Got Game West, and Rhaegyn choked on a rogue versus Frag Dominant Duelists. Both teams are amazing, so we weren't going to win without giving it our best.

"While most teams had to beat out 2-4 good teams in order to reach the finals winner bracket, we had 6."
You thought you would lose in Orlando and you're the champions now. Will you be expecting to win every event from now on?

We thought we would lose because the last time we had played as a team was MLG San Diego. Furthermore, our seed gave us the toughest bracket in the tournament. Not only did we start without a BYE, but our first match was against The Super Gosus (Veex's team). While most teams had to beat out 2-4 good teams in order to reach the finals winner bracket, we had 6.

What would your family say if you told them that you are taking a year off school to play WoW professionally? And would you want to become a professional?

Hahahahaha. Yeahhh, no.

"The O is the head, the r is the arm, and the z is the leg and the butt."
Do you consider yourself better than other players in your class?

I do consider myself as one of the best druids, although I wouldn't go so far as to saying 'THE best'.

If there was one thing that you think you do better than any other druid out there, what would it be?

Whine.

What is the story behind the Orz name?

It's a little dude bending over. The O is the head, the r is the arm, and the z is the leg and the butt.
