So there it is, finally: iRacing. No it is not another apple manufactured mainstream product, being sold over and over again with the same technique in different colored cases. Not yet.
According to it’s trailer, it offers:
- a new way to train
- a different way to compete
- the best way… to win
Well, lets see. Husky gave it a shot as soon as he received the invitation for downloading –and before that: payment. The only way to get it is via credit card. As Husky doesn’t have one so far – and why would he need that unless he wants to keep buying game content over and over again. Cause that is the iRacing philosophy. Buy a basic content consisting of a few cars an tracks and keep paying every month , as we know it from World of Warcraft. Every new content you want, you have to buy. At least you don’t rent the car and have give it back without any damage. And that would indeed be quite hard.
Ok. Logged in and – what the f*** - Husky is now known as Sandra, cause that is the owner of the credit card he used. You are not able to change name. You will stay a girl until the end of your days – on a racetrack. How much worse can it be? I mean, you can set the fastest laptimes, win every tournament around, you will still be asked: have you ever parked your car backwards?
That guy drove a freaking 500 horse power BMW M6!
Making the best out of the funny situation, husky discovered his female attitudes, being able to seduce every guy in the chat. Soon he focused again. What Is the new way to train? How different than racing against each other can a Race be? How good can it be to win?
To make it short: That is nothing but promotion. Training does not work different than in other racing simulations, racing against each other still is as thrilling as in known games, still internet-delay can wreck a race. And the feeling of winning still is: gorgeous – or, is it?
No. The harder a challenge is, the more you fight to keep the car on track, the more you feel the car as if it would be real, the better it feels to cross the chequered flag first. And that is what iRacing does, that is what simracing is all about: as close to reality as possible (at the moment). It's just a matter of time until leagues develop and prize money is given to the best of the best. We are waiting patiently …

Great work so far, really looking forward to the offical release!
By the way - the support changed my name ;) So, pls don't call me Sandra :D
I have a pretty poor connection and over the last 6 days or racing have found many differences between other Sim games such as Live For Speed and iRacing. Firstly, by having to complete a series of races and/or time trails to show you can drive laps without causing any incidents is a great idea to avoid what you generally see in many servers on Live For Speed, for example.
Once you get to drive the more advanced default cars you get the ability to change certain setup variables to help teach you how to make setups yourself. For the Oval based Legend Car, you get the ability to change things like camber/gear ratios which are more a necessity for the oval racing and suspension, tyres etc for the road going Solstice Advanced.
Once you get past driving these and want to progress to the higher licenses and leagues, you can then purchase more cars and tracks.
The handling of the cars is certainly as good as any other Sim out there but using the basic Solstice as an example for this creates quite a false impression due to the fact that this comes with power steering so dampens the effects somewhat. You really notice the difference on the Legend!
It's certainly not a cheap SIM at a basic rate of $20 a month or $156 for the year. Extra cars and tracks range from $15 - $30. If you do go for the year option you receive credit of $75 which can be used for buying extra cars and tracks or toward your next years subscription. If close racing is what you want where drivers do treat others with respect and give room where needed, (post rookie status!) then this could be a good racing sim.
You need to have a wheel to be able to play this too so controllers, mouse and keyboard are out!
There are many Current Nascar drivers that already have started using this Sim and their initial results suggest they can fight with the best virtual racers.......
Great briefly review. n1lyn should put this as news =P
I'm practising Race07 at the moment, due to the iPowergames Grand Final in Paris next weekend. But after that, I gonna show you at least a 1.48 ;)
My best time at Lime Rock was 1.03.3. I was really satisfied with this time, after 3 days in iRacing :)
