VP barred from ESWC Ukraine, qualifies as pro100

ImageVirtus.pro were not allowed to participate in the Ukrainian ESWC qualifier due to VP being a "Russian project." The team entered the tournament under the name of pro100 and won it.

As we reported earlier, the organisers of the Ukrainian qualifier wanted to prevent Virtus.pro from taking part in the preliminary. According to the rules of the ESWC, in order for a team to be eligible to take part in a local qualifier, at least three of its players need to be inhabitants of the country in which the qualifier is held. That condition was met (three of VP's players are Ukrainian) but the Cyber Professional League and the Ukrainian Cybersport Federation's ruling was that Virtus.pro was not allowed to enter the competition because it is a Russian organisation.

The ruling was curious to say the least because the same logic were applied everywhere, many of the world's top teams would not be able to attend the ESWC Grand Final. Fnatic is an Australian company, SK Gaming is German and their Swedish CS squads have qualified for the ESWC.

The Virtus.pro team registered for the tournament under the name of pro100, was allowed to play and won the event defeating A-Gaming in the final.
