Virtus.pro were not allowed to participate in the Ukrainian ESWC qualifier due to VP being a "Russian project." The team entered the tournament under the name of pro100 and won it.As we reported earlier, the organisers of the Ukrainian qualifier wanted to prevent Virtus.pro from taking part in the preliminary. According to the rules of the ESWC, in order for a team to be eligible to take part in a local qualifier, at least three of its players need to be inhabitants of the country in which the qualifier is held. That condition was met (three of VP's players are Ukrainian) but the Cyber Professional League and the Ukrainian Cybersport Federation's ruling was that Virtus.pro was not allowed to enter the competition because it is a Russian organisation.
The ruling was curious to say the least because the same logic were applied everywhere, many of the world's top teams would not be able to attend the ESWC Grand Final. Fnatic is an Australian company, SK Gaming is German and their Swedish CS squads have qualified for the ESWC.
The Virtus.pro team registered for the tournament under the name of pro100, was allowed to play and won the event defeating A-Gaming in the final.

Selfowned x2.
They were afraid that none of the Ukrainian teams would qualify for the ESWC.
Will they still be supported by Virtus.Pro for the trip there? ESWC only covers a part of the travel expenses if I'm not mistaken... so unless they do some under the table stuff (since they wouldn't be representing VP at the event if they are forced to tag pro100), the players have to pay for stuff themselves :X
VP's sponsored by Intel, I don't think Intel would be too happy to see their sponsorship (money and products among other things) not be represented...

I don't exactly understand what that committee wanted because they said a "local team" to represent them earlier and in turn disallowed VP (as an organization I guess?) to attend, but they let the same exact players (2 Russian and 3 Ukrainian) attend and win it all? Last time I checked a "local team" is composed of the players and not related to the organization.

yes, you are right, but everyone knows that the pro100 is VP.. i mean, everybody (or almost?) that wil be watching the games and the tournament will have heard of this incident, and they will be indeed cheering for VP, just with another name. i understand that most probably isnt how Intel is gonna look at the issue, but im sure they (the team) will be able to use the VP tag in the Grand Finals.. i hope so at least
Really nice for VP, really really nice... Happy for them, they must feel so proud right now.
Couldn't imagine such a huge event without their huge unique skill. GL LeX Deagle Master.
gj boys, gogo eswc finals now :)
Good for VP, I really hoped A-Gaming winning the ukranian ESWC since they wheren't invited to the ESWC masters, but ban VP from ESWC russia cause the ukranian players and ban them from the ukranian qualifier cause the team was completely weird at all.
But I'm also kinda sad that other ukrainian teams will continue in the shadow of VP just because they now have 3 ukrainians in their lineup.....its always nice to see Hellraisers, Amazing gaming at events...these are pretty good teams....
And VP continuously recruiting from Ukraine makes me believe that the cs scene in Ukraine is pretty great...in terms of good upcoming players..maybe>Russia???
Was it only about the name ffs?!?
"Virtus Pro we are banning you from playing in the Ukrainian ESWC qualifier"
"What? Who is Virtus Pro we are pro100"
"O! in that case welcome to the event"
