The Netherlands ESWC preliminaries finished with expected winners for WarCraft 3: Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen and Kevin "RotterdaM" van der Kooi, but some intrigue for Quake 3.The event was held in WZZRD Internet Cafe and organized by WSquared (ESL Netherlands, GameLux).
No surprises happened in the WarCraft 3 preliminary, as Grubby and RotterdaM stormed first through their groups (four groups, three players in each) and then made it to the winner brackets final.
There, Grubby clinched the first ESWC slot. RotterdaM went through the loser brackets and got the second slot. No superfinal match was played.
Grubby gave a comment:
"I am happy that I won and about the shape with which I played, and I guess no big surprises with me being first and RotterDaM finishing second to come with me to San Jose. It is one small success on the record and I hope to do something with it.
I was also joyed by the turn-up (the people that showed up) for WC3, it is one of the best turn-ups ever and the players were all very motivated. SushiLicious, inhuman, infantrist, tsuioku, sasuke, ferocious and more: was great to see you guys and hope to see you at WCG NL!"
Quake 3 preliminary showed a little bit of intrigue, where Sander 'Vo0' Kaasjager, the long time duel champion was won by Lemmy 'if-22' de Groot. if-22 (picture), thus, is the only player that will represent Netherlands on ESWC in San Jose.
