Group D proved to be the toughest group in the team battle stage of the running PGL Season III in the past two days. Two times WCG winner Xiaofeng "Sky" Li justified his #1 seed with two clear victories and steered into knockout stage. June "Lyn" Park redeemed himself later on. He finished Mykhaylo "HoT" Novopashyn off in the consolation final and avoided falling into revival stage.
Since Group D became one of the upper groups yesterday, none of its players would have to fight their way to survive in the tournament.
Sky, who almost beat Group C alone in the opening day, did not ran into much trouble against Meet Your Makers 's captain Jung Ki 'Susiria' Oh. His perfect map and unit control lit his route to the upper bracket final.
He then turned down HoT's approach in the decisive match, who barely surpassed Lyn in another half bracket. A four-minute successful tier one tower rush in the first game and hard-earned victory afterwards enabled Sky proceed to the knockout stage.
Lyn did not start off the day well when he encountered his former team-mate. In spite of displaying a beautiful comeback in the first game, Lyn could not resist waves after waves of master talons from the Gravitas Gaming player in the last two games and joined Susiria in the lower bracket final.
Being the Orc versus Undead matchup specialist, Lyn dismissed his fellow Korean’s slight hope with 2-0 victory. It earned the SK Gaming star player a chance to get the things right versus HoT in the consolation final.
He executed his strategy clinically when he faced another mass talon approach from HoT on the new map Tidewater Glades. The Ukrainian Night Elf player afterwards tried to fool his opponent by building his Hunter's Hall in a hidden position outside his base on Secret Valley. But Lyn realised HoT's intention and smartly switched his second hero from Tauren Chieftain to Shadow Hunter in the very last moment. HoT failed to build a good enough army and typed “gg” after losing both of his heroes without killing Lyn's Blade Master who had very low HP.
Dae Hui 'FoV' Cho and Yoan 'ToD' Merlo will kick off Group B’s matches shortly after. As they did not manage to become one of the upper groups, none of them will have the chance to advance to knockout stage directly. The best two players in this group will move on to the revival stage while the other two will have to sit out the rest of the tournament.
