Greetings reader, my name’s Alexander Shulepov and I currently play Call of Duty 4 for TEK9. I joined the CoD2 team in late 2006 and since then we’ve won things like the World Series of Video Games (WSVG) and Clanbase Eurocup.I’m 18 years old and originally from Kiev in the Ukraine. My parents and I moved to the Netherlands when I was four because my dad got a nice job. I’m currently attending secondary school (VWO in Dutch) and I got my final exams next year, after that I’m going to go to attend university.
I played Doom at my neighbors’ when I was like five, so that’s where I got my FPS skills!
When were you happiest?
I’d say I’m pretty happy now! The only ‘bad’ thing is doing stuff for school, which is actually a normal thing to do, so I have nothing to complain about to be honest.
What's your greatest fear?
To be bored for the rest of my life.
What is your earliest memory?
Seeing some gold colored something hanging in front of me. I asked my mom about it and it turned out to be some curtain we had back then, which was in my room.
Which living person do you most admire, and why?
I don’t really admire people, probably because I’m extremely arrogant on the inside (even more than my behavior shows :D). The best rank someone could get in my eyes would mean being respected by me.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
The total absence of discipline.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Arrogance, when it’s not at its place. If someone is REALLY better at something, it’s okay.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
I had to sing a backstreetboys song on stage for the whole school (like 800 people?) when I was 11 years old.
What's the most expensive thing you've bought?
My parents usually pay for everything I want, so I have no idea actually. It’s probably some clothing or so, but nothing special.
What is your most treasured possession?
Nothing really pops up in my head when I think about a thing that I treasure, so it’ll probably be my TV or PC, otherwise I’d just be bored at home.
Where would you like to live?
If I wouldn’t have to worry about losing friends and stuff like that, I think I’d go to Turkey. That’s just a random thought though, because we’ve been there on vacation like five times and it was always amazing.
What would your super power be?
Going back in time sounds cool.
What do you dislike about your appearance?
Nothing really, maybe I lack some height?
What is your most unappealing habit?
I like to make fun of people, some find that unappealing I guess.
What is your favourite smell?
Cotton candy smells good, that’s the first thing I thought of at least.
What is the worst thing anyone's said to you?
I don’t know, I only care about what my friends and parents say, and they don’t say bad things to me. I’m sure other people say bad things about me, but I don’t mind, I say bad things about them too.
What do you owe your parents?
A lot probably, as I’m a bit spoiled and stuff. They always do stuff for me if I need them to, they always offer to help (too often even) and they pay for almost everything I want. So yeah, I owe them.
Which living person do you most despise, and why?
I don’t really despise anyone; I strongly dislike a lot of people. Most of them annoy me in some way, may it be their stupidity and arrogance or terrible humor. There’s just something about them that I find quite appalling.
To whom would you like to say sorry, and why?
The only one I can think of is my grandma, because we’re always having fights about lousy things, but on the other hand, the ‘sorry’ wouldn’t be sincere since I’d still think that I’m the one who’s right.
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Well you can’t call something the greatest love of your life, in my opinion, as you simply cannot know if it’ll remain that way for such a long time. My ‘current love’ is a girl that I spend quite a lot of time with, but you never know what will happen in the future.
Maybe when you’re like dying, and get that flashback of your whole life, you can say what the greatest love of your life was?
What does love feel like?
Well there are different kinds of love in my opinion: there’s the love when you just care a lot about someone, usually after you’ve known him/her for a very long time, e.g. relatives. - and there’s the ‘falling in love’ kind of love, when you think of a person and you feel this warm, satisfying, sweet kind of happiness (haha that sounds crap).
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Those are usually like phases I go through, me and my best mates always think of something pretty funny-annoying (funny for a while, then gets annoying) and use it for a while, until it gets extremely annoying, then we start overusing other stuff.
On ventrilo I say ‘terrible’ too often I think.
What is the worst job you've done?
I’ve never had a job, as in an official one. The worst thing I had to do at home is probably washing our shed.
What has been your biggest disappointment?
When I failed the fourth year at school, and thus had to re-do it. It turned out quite well though since I met a huge amount of cool people who I spend a lot of time with these days. Also I’d have to be studying for my final exams as I’m typing this right now, which I’m simply not ready for at the moment: I have only started learning to be somehow disciplined, hopefully I’ll be ready next year :D.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
I’m happy with how I’ve changed and progressed and stuff, so I wouldn’t really go back in time to be honest, it wouldn’t benefit me.
When did you cry last, and why?
August 2004, when my grandma died.
What is the closest you've come to death?
I got almost-hit by a car a couple of times, and hit by a car once. It was at a slow pace though, so I was okay, but there was a scratch on the guy’s Audi, muahaha. Oh and a plane I was in had a crappy landing, but I think it just felt very bad on the inside of the plane, but wasn’t really threatening.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Having more discipline.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Haha, I had to answer this question at school too in some weird questionnaire, but I couldn’t really think of anything. Gaming-wise, winning WSVG was the coolest thing ever. In real life I don’t play tournaments or something, so there are no clear achievements of that kind. I’ll give it a go; I study five times less than my classmates, yet get better grades. Does that count?
How would you like to be remembered?
I don’t care if people will remember me when I’m gone, I don’t believe in afterlife stuff, so when I’m dead, I’m actually gone, and nothing matters anymore.
If you want a cliché answer: I’d like my friends to remember me as a smart and funny guy. And my not-friends would have to remember me as a harsh, cynical, arrogant prick, but one with some good humor!
Where would you most like to be right now?
With my best friends, watching some funny movie and having lots of beer at our disposal.
