It was previously stated that the WC3L playoffs would be held in Chengdu, China which will also be the host city of World Cyber Games 2009.

But the tragic earthquake ruined the plan as the scheduled stadium collapsed and the government of Chengdu announced that there would be no sports competition held in Chengdu in two months.

ESL therefore opted for Hunan's provincial capital, Changsha for the looming WC3L playoffs. The playoffs will take place from June 15 to 16.

PGL, which is co-operating with ESL, named Changsha the host city for the quarter-finals and grand finals of its third season in the meantime. The quarter-finals and grand finals will be played between June 12 and 14 while previous matches will be played in Beijing, China between June 4 and June 11.
