Today hits the announcement of the Association of Gaming Professionals, a tournament circuit that will start in 2009 for Quake 4, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament 3 and Warsow. Does this mean a revival for the withering deathmatch scene?AGP was founded by Jarod "Streetrunner" Reisin, a former Quake 4 player in the World Series of Video Games tour. The tour will be quite similar to that of ATP tennis, with four major tournaments a year. Instead of a different ground, the players will play in a different game.
The year will be divided into four three-month seasons of tournaments for one game, culminating with a major. The games that have been selected for the inaugural year of AGP are Q3, Q4, UT3 and WSW, although the order of the seasons has not been determined yet.
"The prime focus of each production will be on the professional player and the action of the game in a made for TV environment, with the ability to stream each match online via the official site," says AGP President Jarod Reisin. The emphasis will be on the production of the show, with in game stats, interview and maps edited to be more spectator-friendly.
“FPS 1v1 has all of the action, skill, and excitement of a true sport," Reisin continues. "We are going to celebrate it and its players with their established celebrity and fan bases by presenting their long and diverse histories and the intense drama and amazing skill these games provide."
The end goal is to have twelve tournaments each year, including the four majors. The non-major events, produced by various partners, will create the AGP Elitist Series for pros and AGP Circuits open for everyone. Only the highest-ranked pros will be able to enter an AGP major.

well, the initiative is great, good luck ;)
here you go : )
Why is that Carmac ? Don't you had a good time following the game and the scene with av3k ?
Q4 is too similar to Q3. I would like to see CPM but again it's too similar to wSw (same about PK and I bet that community is even smaller than famous 17 players).
There is also QW and Q2 but those are not very good spectator-wise. So I think that this gamepool is really nice, three totally different games (+Q4), each one requires different skills.
Anyway, from my POV, in fact, even wsw and cpm are very different, because of the maps + ammos system of warsow, walljump and some lil' differences in the movements (like slide instead of ramp jump etc). TBH, I even see wsw as a cpm "upgrade", closer to the ideology of moving fast in the right way with smart play; the game just needs some tweaks & balance to become close to perfection of a REAL fast-paced competitive dm game :o. Plus, it's free and still in development/improvement, another advantage over cpm... Ahah, am I making a good promotion here ? :-P
Back to the subject, "There is also QW and Q2 but those are not very good spectator-wise", I think you're right about Q2, but QW... QW is fucking intense :o, lot of rocket/shaft/nade action, no fucking rail and pretty good gfx with the new http://nquake.com/ client. But imho, it's still Quake 1, that means from 1996 or so... So, as good as it can be, from my pov it has done its time in the e-Sport (remember the first CPL events ?). I'm personally not for a Q1 nor Q2 revival (I mean in big events, I know it's still played online and @ dreamhack/QuakeCon), there is already Q3 for that :-P.
Anyway, looking forward to this. I really hope it won't fail...
I am afraid about wSw because 0.4 is VERY boring to watch, many things should be changed but fo sho they will release new version this year. I hope it will be faster and better to watch (like 0.2 or 0.3), less random (because now close-range fights are at least 60% random).
Anyway I am really looking forward to this thing :D Hope to see some famous players @ wSw, I am curious how will they perform.
