One of the most dominant players in the history of Quake, Johan "Toxjq" Quick, has decided to sit the Swedish ESWC qualifier out. This means that most likely he will not be seen playing Quake 3 this year.

Toxjq's name is missing from the list of the 12 participants of the Swedish Electronc Sports World Cup preliminary. Reportedly, the Swedish player has quoted not enjoying Quake 3 with the CPMA competition mode. The last time he played Q3, the 1v1 mode in use was OSP. This season there is not enough to win for the former SK Gaming player to compete at a game he does not like.

Another big Quake name that has decided not to try Quake 3 again is Alexander "Z4muZ" Ihrfors, the ESWC 2004 champion with team Sweden. His younger brother Andreas is on the ESWC list, though.

The fans of the game should still not be disappointed as names like Magnus "fojji" Olsson, Karl "fooKi" Johansson, Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira and the pimp himself, Cyrus "proZaC" Malekani are signed up.

Well, his Q3 duelling was never up to par with either fox or fooKi's, so I reckon he won't be missed that much. I'm looking forward to see what the two old OSP-heroes can do in CPMA - and the return of proZaC is just epic lub :p

toxjq beat fox rather easily in Q3 at quakecon last year, I don't know where people like you get your info. fox himself, who knows toxjq better then anyone, have said that he could be just as good in Q3 if he wanted to but he simply doesn't like the game.

Prolly a training-issue then. At ESWC 2005 and 2004 fox was the better player of those two. I don't know if it was missing motivation from toxic to train duelling, but fox was far better 1on1 back then.

Was the comment for me Carmac? Because as far as I remember, fox got 3rd at ESWC 2005 and beat tox two times (2-1 both times, but still 2-1).

I haven't followed quake4 at all, but in quake3 (duel) toxic was definatly lacking in the brains department

As far as I know, toxjq barely played any death match in Quake 3, he was almost entirely preoccupied with tdm. I don't know why everyone is drawing comparisons or stating x was better than him when he barely played the format.

The excuse that he barely played the format doesn't change the fact that players x,y,z pummeld the hell out of him at that time and thus were better.

Besides It's not like it's impossible to be a great 1v1 player and teamplayer at the same time. czm, fox & cooller were all atleast as good in tdm as toxic and were top class duellist at the same time.

No. Toxic got owned in the early days of Q4 the same way he was owned in Q3. He was extremely strong but lacked something. Then, with time, he improved and gained experience. If you think that he would not manage the same feats in Q3, especially that CPMA makes the LG stronger, then you are simply mistaken. Talk to any of the Swedish players that knows Toxic.

How could he attend Swedish qualifier is he is a Pole... :)

He even didn't have to attend Polish qualifiers as he won last ESWC and he is current Quake Champion (no matter that it was 4, not 3) so he gets an auto-berth.

From what I've heard he isn't much active and his last scores were rather disappointing but still he has got some time to practice :)
