A subdued Saturday saw an unlikely surprise as the Spanish Wizards' guaranteed themselves a top three spot on the first day of the Championship Gaming Series (CGS) 'Kick off' Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) tournament. One of only three European teams attending the event alongside fnatic and LowLandLions (L3), the former BlackSouls side who signed with new organisation Wizards' earlier this week, made comfortable progress through a relatively tough bracket.
Beating British teams in each of their three matches, the Spanish side will face Dignitas in a winner bracket final 'tomorrow' with some confidence, owing to the fact that Dignitas are without their regular sniper, Chris 'Blackmane' Kinnair, whose ineligible due to the 18+ age restriction on the event.
The former TEK-9 and Speed-Link player Daniel 'L-KING' Luther replaces Blackmane for the event and despite lineup issues, Dignitas will be looking to secure their second tournament win in a row following the success at the Multiplay i33 event.
In the two other remaining matches, fnatic will play L3, whereas ephix will face Reason Gaming in the lower bracket, both British sides were beaten by Wizards' whereas fnatic slumped to a surprising defeat in their very first game of the tournament (against Reason Gaming), somewhat undermining their first seeding.
