The first part of the qualifier was a single elimination bracket with 23 players in it. Double elimination starts only in the top 4 stage, so some well-known names like Jared "cha0ticz" Cugno and Sean "daler" Price are already out of the event.
The auspicious new school player in North America, rapha beat his opponents on the way to the semi final with ease. He will now face Chance "chance" Lacina, a player with ESWC experience.
In the other half of the bracket, there is Daniel "Carnage" Sturdivant, known for frying his laptop with his urine, will meet the Championship Gaming Series Chicago Chimera General Manager, Brian "destrukt" Flander.
Two players will qualify for the ESWC Grand Final in San Jose on August 25-27. This means that rapha is two victories away from securing himself an invite. You can follow the tournament bracket right here.

CGS allow a general manager to play? Interesting =)
Then you need to patch it up to the latest release:
http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake3-arena/index.php?game_section=updates ...
... and download the latest CPMA with its maps:
http://www.promode.org/
Alternatively you could have Q3A Pro Installer download it all for you automatically:

After that you're all set. Watching demos and GTV is pretty much the same as in CS.
Someone from SK could write a blog about this or something; so that more people can watch their players.
