The Meet Your Makers captain Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas will see his team in the Kode5 playoffs. And he is intent on taking it all the way."Moscow looks very much like Poland, although I am not the one to ask," says the strat caller when asked if he liked the capital of Russia. "I was watching demos in the hotel all night."
This shows that the MYM team will mean business. They came to the Kode5 Global Final with a new attitude towards Counter-Strike and training.
"After the defeats at the WCG and Extreme Masters LA," explains TaZ, "we decided that we should focus more on the skill side of the game rather than the tactical one. We now prefer to play the tactics we have to the bone rather than come up with as many different tactics as possible."
Things seem to be working out rather well for them, as they won all their games so far, including the one against the WCG silver medalists mTw. But the game was a very difficult one:
"mTw trained a lot and they are one of the better prepared teams here. After all, they are a top 5 team in the world and they could have won this match."
Despite a long boot camp, MYM's problem at the tournament is... preparation. The team found out only yesterday that the tournament monitors are TFTs.
"We were surprised and we are still getting used to them," says TaZ. "We boot camped on CRTs and even forced two of our members who play on TFT monitors at home to use CRTs as well."
But with the most difficult hurdle in group play past them, they can look forward to a good playoffs campaign. And they are probably rid of their biggest rivals, Fnatic, who are known to be very good on TFT monitors.
"I heard that they did not practice that much since they came back from a two weeks' trip," says the Polish player. "On the other hand, there are no weak teams here so they may have simply underestimated their opponents."
Does this mean that MYM's fans can expect to see the Poles' glorious comeback to number one?
"I cannot tell you if we are the favourites," answers TaZ modestly, "but our mindset is always to win the tournament."
