Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager, one of the icons of the $1,000,000 era of deathmatch, may be making a comeback to mainstream esports as he signed up to the Dutch ESWC qualifier for Quake 3.It is unknown whether or not the PainKiller legend wants to pursue an active career in Quake 3, but he was often said to miss competition.
"He will come back for sure," Alexander "Ztrider" Ingarv, Vo0's team mate in Fnatic, would say after the Dutchman retired. Vo0 himself refused to comment on whether or not he the Dutch ESWC qualifier is merely going to be a fun appearance for him.
Vo0 has been the most dominant PainKiller player in history, and holds the record of $232,000 in prize money winnings in one year. His esports appearances have been rather ephemeral the CPL discontinued holding PK events.
The Dutchman tried playing Quake 4 but decided not to go through with professional play because he did not find the game enjoyable enough to compete in. He then made a short-lived comeback to play World of Warcraft with Alexander "Ztrider" Ingarv and James "2GD" Harding but stuck to playing games like CPMA and Warsow eventually.
The other interesting sign-up in the qualifier is Lemmy "if-22" de Groot, the best Dutch Quake 3 player in history, known for his defensive style of play.

that would be quite the rape.
great news!
( its not fair, that we havent got qualification at Hungary :( )
Vo0 only play CPMA/cpm, and no, afaik, he never really played CPMA/vq3 nor any other vq3 competition mods, simply because it's way too slow & floaty for him, not to mention that it's not really well balanced (for example hitscan weapons dominance or too weak armors).
He has tried Q4, which is basically "vq3+slide+more players accel+weaker rail" and he hasn't done anything special, so I doubt he could face players like cooller or jibo without being kinda raped.
But if he is participating, we will see :-).
All he needs is learn the maps (not that long, matter of weeks ?), get the vq3 feeling (the harder part :D) and improve his shaft & railgun aim :-P.
I never doubted that he would quit entirely.
You have my blessing, Vo0!
