Ok microsoft rulez the world, the next one will be blizzard.
Yes, it may be competitive, but so is thumb wrestling, it may be popular (although its doubtfull), but so is music, lets make "American/Brasilian/Japanese Idol" an olympic event. Just imagine the olympics in 2020 for example. FIFA/NBA/.. 2020 insted of the team sports. Quake replaces boxing and Starcraft 4 is the new swimming. How cool eh?
Let me ask you a questin. Would you rather watch wc3 replays or a football game? If you choose the replays you are honestly retarded and i'm just wasting my time!
The only reason why i get thumbed down is because i post this in a gaming forum!
Ill tell you what - u are a registred user here and this is a gaming site u got thumbs down cuz your opinion just sux. Why do you think pc games will run over "real" sport? Wtf are u talking about actually? And those examples u give are meaningless.. Its like omg we should not put beach volley into olypmics cuz when they see the sexy women playing it nobody will play/watch standart volleyball.
And what exacly is ruining my body? LoL your familiar with training and diets? So tell me mr.olimpia what is this work that u dont spend at least half of your working day in front of a PC? Yeah ofc policeman and fire brigade.. So giving your opinion respect theese(and the jobs that dont have anything to do with pc) are the only healthy and "non ruining the body" jobs to work?
PC Games will never run over Sport. But PC Games are competetive and entertaining and have a big future. And you cannot say who is retarded and who is not based on what i want to watch - a replay or a football game. In my eyes your retarded.
e-Sports=Future :D
You can call anything a sport. You could call a lawsuit a sport. On one hand you have the lawyers and on the other hand you have the prosecutors both sides competing to win the case and both sides dedicating a large part of their life to becoming good at what they do. But you won't see O.J Simpson being tried at the olympics either.
I suggest you look up some officially recognised sports before you say more.
since we (me?) are talking about the olympics here. I see the olympics as a celebration of physical sports, and I'm pretty sure 99% of the worlds population thinks about it in the same way.
It's nice they have recognized things like chess as a official sport (without a tournament though), but if you ask somebody on the street to name a olympic sport I doubt the first thing they would mention is chess.
In my opinion e-sports have no place at the olympics. E-sports has their own tournaments, like wcg, eswc etc.
And gaming is AGAINST everything that the olympics stand for. In ancient times no all wars were stopped for the olympics to take place and you are telling me that games where people kill each other and lead fantasy wars are woth of being an OLYMPIC sport (if its a sport at all).
The olympics have always been a place where the strongest, fastest .. well the best athletes compete. Gaming is closer to a essay contest that to a sport.
Not to mention RTS games. Maybe for the casual gamer 2-3 games in a row are nothing, but to stay focussed in a tournament or even throughout a bo5 with 250 apm all the time, all that while microing and strategizing... actually show me a sport that is demanding in so many different ways.
It's not about being athletic, but if you know what the definition of sport is, than you know esports has got to be at the olympics one day.
Only reason it's not their already is the lack of a uniform discipline. Trend sports like Inline-Skating made it to the Olympics with way less people actually being interested in it. Gaming is for millions.
next.
Traditional sports use the world as their platform, gaming uses computers. It's two different things. Reality vs virtual reality. olympics vs world cyber games...
I was trying to prove that gaming should not be put into the olympics. It may somewhat fit into a sub category of sport (and imo this does not make it a sport)
you are supposed to do esports only in mind, aint you?
Talking without knowing shit is lame. And talking about football i was actually in my school's football team and used to play for tha local club's youth formation, before i focused on school. I basically love all kinds of sports.
learn your lore, then post.
I've practiced both real sports and eSports and I can assure you that both are very challenging. eSports deserve to be in the Olympics, it's just that we are still too young for it. As it was already said above, the reason why you can become very good in eSports in 2-3 years is because it still isn't quite popular. But take a look at the Korean SC scene. You can't become good in 2-3 years. You have to dedicate your life and put a lot of efford in order to be successful. eSports may not require any exceptional physical activities but it definitely has the potential to become very competitive and interesting to watch by everybody.
