The WC3L post-season formalities begin today with the 1st WC3L Season XIII Playdown match between Fnatic and mTw, the winner will remain in the WC3L, the loser banished to the Qualifiers. Both teams have suffered a rocky WC3L season with mTw removing Juha-Matti "Satiini" Bäckström from their roster who failed to reproduce the magic of his fnatic days.
They have since recruited Hyeong Ju "Check" Lee from the Beijing E-Sports Team but will be unable to use him for this match.
Fnatic's squad formerly known as We Are Go also lost a key player when they lost Chul Woo "Shy" Park to MeetYourMakers at the end of last WC3L season.
However the tides took an unexpected turn and when Fnatic announced their new Warcraft3 squad to be We are Go it saw Shy return to the team from MYM as well as bringing another Korean MYM player into the team, Hyo Sub "FoCuS" Eom.
Sung Hyun "Space" Park of Fnatic is sitting at 8th place in the player rankings with 20 wins and 8 losses in 1on1 and with him in good shape, this match looks like an uphill struggle for mTw. However every dog has its day and mTw have been present in the WC3L since season II, in other words for the last 5 years so they are veterans in keeping their place in the league.
Here are the statements from the managers:
Rukie - mTw.PokerRoom:
"We are looking forward to tomorrows match. fnatic gained shape with adding Shy and Focus to the team and so we will definitely go into this match as the underdogs.
But we also have some really good players and those players will play their best to avoid the qualifier. Let's see some exciting games and a close match."
Elroy "NoName" Pinto - Fnatic:
"We're back to WC3L but this time at the playdowns, we face mTw and it's a slightly deja vu scenario since we faced them in the previous season playdowns and ended up losing straight to the qualifiers.
This time around I hope there's a different result as we don't want to spend time in the qualifiers. We just want to be able to focus on the next season which is our priority. So sticking to that, we'll look to take the victory in this game and hope for some good games in the process too!"
The match is scheduled to begin at 4pm CET today and you can follow the match in our
