A song of Mechanics and Rotations: SK in LCS W5

ImageThis week was a fancy one, as we were able to follow LCS live from the Wembley Arena for the first time.

Although the location surely is a factor that should get everyone excited, there is one thing that makes it even better: The “kickoff-game” is a highlight already, as the first placed team EU Alliance faces the second place EU SK Gaming.

The Alliance gathers

With first place on the line, there was no doubt that this game was going to be good. Alliance started of with a very team oriented playstyle at the beginning, as they rotated around the map to deny Fredy followed by a very well executed 4 man gank on mid lane. Froggen on Yasuo got ahead early on and Jesiz simply struggled to keep up with him.

As the game went on, Alliance came up with nicely executed game plan and pushed their advantage in every possible way. About 30 minutes into the game, they lead by 14k gold, not counting their baron buff in. Even though it looked like SK stood a chance at defending the base, their enemies simply proved to be too strong in the end.

Supa Hot SK Gaming

Leaving the last game behind, SK looked fresh and ready to go, as they set up to play against the dangerous EU Supa Hot Crew.

The Nocturne pick for the mid-lane did not seem to surprise SK at all. However, there is a lot of talking going on, because a player might have leaked SHC’s surprise pick. Unlike last game, SK did not seem to struggle in the early game. And as history proves, this was a rather good sign for them.

It did not take long to eventually turn the head to head game into SK Gaming's advantage. From there on, they demonstrated their strong team play and the reason why they are a top contender in the EU LCS rankings. Every player had good stats, but two of them stood out: Svenskeren on Evelynn and Candy Panda on Caitlyn. Without any problems, SK managed to eventually push through. Although the leak was very unfortunate, it surely was not the only reason why SHC lost.
