The film will be shown to the public for the very first time on April 1 at the American Film Institute's Film Festival in Dallas. A second screening will follow on April 3.
Directed by Mike Pasley, Frag started out as a documentary about CPL events but evolved into an attempt to show the true face of electronic sports today. If it succeeds, it will be the first. From the movie's synopsis:
"Frag is the true story of professional video gaming. Frag sheds light on the struggles that kids face while trying to break into and maintain success in pro gaming. At a young age, they are faced with making adult decisions that impact the rest of their lives.
"Below the surface of a simple game is an underbelly of corruption, money, partying, drugs, and even death. Exploited, abused, and abandoned, most gamers fail to reach the top, but like all sports, there are heroes. Frag pulls the curtain back."
The film focuses on the CPL president and founder Angel Munoz, the established gaming superstar Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel and an aspiring gamer, Rafik "LoSt-CaUzE" Bryant. The list of people interviewed for the film is also very impressive.
Unfortunately for those that cannot attend AFI Dallas 08, the film will probably not be available in distribution for a few more months.

...I'm not
Did he murder his competitors using a shotgun made of coke that fired hookers?
Did he get young players addicted to coke so that he could force them to admin his events for free giving him more free time to have sex with hookers made of coke?
No? Then that synopsis is misleading and a very good indication of what this is going to be, a sensationalist piece of shite.
CS'ers banging Asian masseuses at the player villages in Korea, sure, that reflects e-sports as a whole.
Whatever they pull out of their asses is going to be isolated incidents like the WoW players keeling over dead after 80 hours of World of Warcraft without food, water or oxygen.
"Pro gaming is about to explode... and no one is safe" Sounds like a lead in for Fox News, sounds like a fauxumentary that could make even Michael Moore blush.
Explain to me how a documentary exploring the "underbelly of corruption" within e-sports is a sensible thing to do when there's been barely any media coverage, or documentaries covering e-sports in the past.
Why is someones first experience of e-sports being a scare story about an assumable fabricated corrupt foundation a good thing for any of us?
As if e-sports isn't being shit hammered enough with inept morons like Angel Munoz holding the key to our (once) flagship event, declining competition and sponsors pulling back.
I'm all for scumbags getting their comeuppance, but is a sensationalist documentary the best way to do that?
If that film accurately portrays that synopsis and that tag line then it's a going to be one horror story after another, all of which none of us will have heard of, because A. they never happened or B. they very rarely happen.
If not, then it'll be one hell of a dull film.
I don't care how many Asian whores get banged because I'm not a prude, I don't care what people are ingesting because their body is their business and I have no sympathy for those stupid enough to die sitting in front of a computer for 50 hours straight.
Either way this film is unlikely to win any kudos from me.

...that does sound like its going to be slamming esports rather than bigging it up..

Example ^^
Bitchin' that Carmac, Wheat, ... are in there too though. Does that mean there's video footage of you guys Carmac?
:D
on the other hand, it might turn out to be far away from reality with stereotyping over and over... so that the people just wanted to let everything look like they wanted to. The biggest hint for this is that the tournament is about the CPL Quake 4 scene... and I wouldn't call this that representative, as duelling is known for the fact that they are a few players who "made it" but many others don't manage to ever get anything back (because there is only pro competition, no amateur competition, thus, nobody (including professional clans) is interested in promising amateur players).
I'm glad you're yawning. Must have been a really shit film. The only possible way this film has any benefit to esports is if it has nothing to do with the CPL and all the sex, drugs, rock and roll.
What you have could be construed as quite possibly the WORST idea in history for an e-sports related film.
What fucking adult decisions do they make?
Bullshit, these are the same decisions that any college/university student makes, and shockingly enough THEY ARE THE SAME FUCKING AGE.
Seriously, if you made a documentary about something wouldn't you want to make it sound interesting? As I said above, I know more about this film than most. I gave those guys a long interview and "bad things" that the synopsis speaks of were a very tiny part of it.
Put together your small input of bad parts with everyone else who was interviewed and you've got two hours of it.
Big fucking difference.
No offence
