WCG offer 3 possibilities for silent run

ImageThe WCG Chief Referee for 1.6, Thierry "Tee" St-Jacques-Gagnon, has released a column about the silent run problem at the WCG Grand Final 2007. They now offer three possibilities concerning the silent run for upcoming events.

Some consider silent running as a bug and exploit while others just see it as a feature of the game, a movement advantage over others. It sounds simple, just double tap the duck key while running and your steps hardly do any noise anymore. But it isn't as easy as it sounds since it needs practice to make it perfect and most of the pro players did this by now, having an advantage over those that can't.

The silent run is around for quite some time now and allowed in most leagues and competitions, but not all. The ClanBase removed teams from the NationsCup due to using silent run but now removed the rule with start of the playoffs. Also everyone remembers the WCG 2007 Grand Final where several teams used it but only some got punished in favour of others having useful contacts within the WCG.

Now the WCG finally sees the silent run as part of the game and offer three possibilities for their upcoming events:

1. Old rule remains

"Dispute format gets changed, asking the teams to specify what round they think they could have been confused or disadvantaged by an opponent using this method"

2. Get rid of the rule

"Therefore allowing the move and play even though it can mess up the hitboxes"

3. Get rid of the rules. Create a WCG Mod for the competition

"Where the third duck-duck combo would have a jump penalty, therefore disallowing a player to move fast AND silent at the same time for a long period of time. At the same time, the players that are used to do this will still be able to do it, but won’t get the hidden advantage of it. This could also allow the WCG committee to fix the silent plant bug and other bug, facilitating the referees’ job and allow them to focus on things like ghosting and dead-speeches."

The WCG now wants the players, readers and the community to work with them and send their comments by mail to thierry@worldcybergames.ca.
