According to SEC's official statement, the players wore the SEC shirts when they grabbed medals but did not wear them at the time they were reinvited to the stage for the final group picture. SEC staff held talks regarding the issue. One option was to ban them from the next SEC tournament, and second to decrease the prize money the players received.
"The possibilities would have been a deduction of the prize money or a ban of the players for the next SEC."
"We had some discussion, what to do. The possibilities would have been a deduction of the prize money or a ban of the players for the next SEC. because the Event is already gone, this would have been the only Options for us," the official statement unveils.
"We came to the decision, that the Auto berth for Fnatic for the national Final 2008 will be denied. That means, they have to fight through the normal qualification like any other team."
Fnatic's explanation
"After coming off the stage we were asked for an interview and as customary we took off our shirts to wear our Fnatic jerseys. We were then all invited onto the stage in a rush for a group photo and so the guys straight out of their interview ran on the stage for the photo in their Fnatic shirt," Fnatic's Managing Director Samuel Mathews explained.
"It was a mistake and we are sorry. However it was a very harmless one!"
Samsung Euro Championship's officials intimate that the incident "will not be the standard penalty for harming the rules". This was the first time, when such thing happened in the tournament.
"Next time doesn’t matter who it will be, we will be talking about deduction of Prize money or banning the players again."

they want to be respected by their works with this kind of stuff, like some football leagues.
the deduction of the prize money can be sound like CPL's issues. (no so much money).
that's rule.
what next? :D in the rulles of the tournemant said that she must wear a BOSS t-shirts ... omg big deal tjesus, nobody even dind't noitice the BOSS t-shirts, same with SEC and Fnatic. ... who cares? exept the sponsers offcourse, normal crowd has seen it so many times, doesn't matter anymore. You must stell yourself the question why that rulle is made? for e-sports of for money? nah nah? altough that 2 terms hae a good relation ;)
However, that being said it is understandable from SEC's perspective - particularly from sponsors eyes. If anyone has seen the picture, Adidas (which afaik is not a sponsor of fnatic) was on the SEC shirt and like every company, they wanted the maximum exposure.
I'm just glad they didn't hand out a more harsher punishment.
Fnatic will still get their money and will have a chance to play at SEC next year.
that would be funny... :p
Is there a contract where players have to wear SEC's shirts or was it a unwritten agreement? ;/
Because I think this whole situation is kinda bull to me...
I think SEC should've told Fnatic about the final group picture where they had to have their (SEC's) shirts on. It seems it was an error from both sides if I read the article good.
So Fnatic still gets a penalty... a Warning would be more appropiate since it was also SEC's fault.. for not noticing Fnatic of the group photo...
I will wear any shirt I wanna wear rofl ....
funny though hahah .. WP fnatic lol
They had an interview...... bla bla....
it was not on purpose. omg ! read first then think then write!!!
Imagine the champions league saying everyone had to wear umbro football boots and the same uniforms, the teams would give them two fingers and go start their competitions. I don't think you'll find a better case showing a conflict of interest.
but fnatic didn't
and I dont know for sure in the Champions League... but I dont think that players have to sign a contract upon participating in the Champions League. So your point is invalid in this case altough I understand what you're trying to say :)
Yes you can compare this to euro08 though :p although dont know if u also need contract when participating in euro08 (only having a passport to the respective country ? ).
i didnt talk about the contract thing and i dont think players have to sign a contract to participate CL. its ofc another story if there is contract which ties the players and sec.
