At a key gaming briefing recently held in London, statistics of today's gamers and the 'changing face of gaming' were brought forward by computer giant Dell, following research conducted by analyst firm Forrester. The term 'gamer' used to be commonly associated with teenage boys playing computer games in a darkened room, surrounded by snack food and fizzy drinks until all hours in the morning; but times are changing and although the above description may still be true in some cases, the majority of gamers are a far cry away from what 'used to be'.
"Gaming is a fast growing industry and touches a wide variety of people worldwide, who are drawn by the sense of community and the entertainment value", Abizar Vakharia, Senior Manager of the Dell Gaming Group.
According to the statistics brought forward by Forrester, the average gamer in Europe is now aged between 18 and 44 years old, they have a good salary and perhaps surprisingly, are almost being outnumbered by the female gender:
48% of gamers are now aged between 18 and 44 years old
26% are over 45 years old
32% of gamers are in the upper income bracket
39% of gamers are female
The old stereotype has almost been thrown out of the window, with gaming generally being widely accepted by most people in today's world (aside from a couple of football coaches). The future is definitely looking up for gaming and gamers alike.

P.S. To - 50% of Gamers have Nervous and Psychic Problems
I think more :DD
The numbers are based on the Online Survey, which is interesting, yes, but representative, not really, see below.
To make it easier to understand the numbers I save some reading for you guys.
There have been 14,316 respondents in seven markets. The seven markets are France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Quote:
"There is 95% confidence that the results have a statistical precision of plus or minus 1.1% of what they would be if the entire online adult population of Western Europe had been polled. This confidence interval can widen to 3.1% when the data is analyzed at a country level."

Good to see Abizar and DELL are still trying to learn a lot about "Gamers", and these guys pretty much understand about professional gaming as well and do a good job with that, I am pretty much convinced you will see even more stuff coming over here in Europe this year that is worth backing up. They already work hard to understand their Customers better and they learn how to work with them to improve especially the XPS Series. That kind of Briefing is a first good step. Keep it up.
rest assured, the old stereotypes have most definately not been thrown out of the window - everyone still thinks we live in our parents basements and never see the light of day, dont worry :)
