Thought I had killed someone...
Thursday of last week coming home from work I decided to take a detour to the Gyle Shopping centre. After picking up some items I made my journey home. About two minutes from my house I was sitting at a set of traffic lights. The lights changed green and I started to accelarate down the road. A cyclist came out of no-where onto the road at speed, tried to brake but there wasnt enough time and I smashed into the cyclist.
He went flying up in the air and then slammed into my windscreen, bounced off and rolled along the road. Stopped the car and ran out to the guy. There was already two people with him, calling for an ambulance and trying to keep him warm with jackets. Just stood there in shock thinking the guy was going to die :(
Two witnesses came up to me and explained that they had seen everything and I was in no way to blame for what happend. The ambulance took an enterntity to come and all the time I just hoped to god the guy was going to be ok. Eventually the ambulance and police arrived and I gave my statement along with the two witnesses, while the cyclist was being put into the ambulance with a neck brace.
By law the Police have to breathalise any driver in an accident. People walked past me in disgust thinking I was some drink driver that had hit the cyclist :(
I asked the police to give me an update on the guys condition when they hear something. Recieved a phone call that night from the police saying that the guy had a fractured cheek bone and his legs were banged up but no broken bones thankfully. The guy also admitted he was to blame. Doesnt make me feel any better but it atleasts puts to an end any possibilty of being blamed for the accident.
Shook me up quite a bit but feeling better now knowing the guy is going to be ok.
