A new league has been announced in conjunction with WCG with a prize purse of 152,000 euro. 8 Counter-Strike 1.6 teams & 8 Warcraft3 players have already been invited, participants inside.

SK Gaming were in attendance at the VIP meeting where a the announcement was held. The ELC as it will now be called is hosted and organised in cooperation with the World Cyber Games and it will be broadcast by their own creation, ELCTV.

The teams and players have already agreed according to the representatives but aside from Fnatic.CS the other identities remain unknown.

The eight teams/players will be divided by a draw into two groups of four teams/players. All group play with each other over three Group stage Rounds. The top two of each group advance to the next round.

One unique feature of the tournament is the fact that it will be similar to the Champions League in the way it distributes money within the tournament. Says the official press release:

"The league will also have the same structure in prize money as the Champions League, where each team gets a start bonus, a bonus for points and for winning a game. Under this format, all participating teams are guaranteed prize money."

This is by far the most interesting aspect of this new league, with every team essentially coming out a winner allowing for the league to expand and grow. The first season will be invite only, however looking to the future the ELC plans to have local qualifiers in each country. The teams will all be flown to the Studio in Stockholm where the production of the league is set to be shot in their own TV Studio specifically designed for E-Sports players.

The ELC has also struck a deal with Octashape, who will assist with the streaming of the matches to the corners of the world.

This kind of television exposure is sure to push the brand of the participating teams but also E-Sports itself, CGS it would seem is about to have some competition.
