Dmitriy "Happy" Kostin's victory over his teammate Dennis "HasuObs" Schneider brought down the curtain on the European qualifier of AWL's fourth season tonight.
The qualifier took place this crazy weekend as numerous tournaments such as Excello Cup, TGL, WC3L, WCL, WPL, ZOTAC Cup all went underway at the same time. This resulted in several attendees having to forfeit their opportunity of competing for a berth to AWL's upcoming season.
The playoff kicked off this afternoon. To everyone's surprise, all the first placed players in group stage were knocked out by runner ups. Finland is obviously the winner today as two out of two Finns, Juha-Matti "Satiini" Bäckström and Samuli "elfittaja" Sihvonen, finished their opponents off respectively in quarter-finals. Mykhaylo "HoT" Novopashyn and Dmitriy "Happy" Kostin joined the Finns after defeating Oleg "TiTaN" Kuptsov and HasuObs respectively later.
The four European representatives will compete with four Chinese qualifiers, four Korean qualifiers and the undergoing season's semi-finalists this season in April. June "Lyn" Park has already advanced to the semi finals after conquering Jong Seok "ReprisaL" Lee. The defending champion will take on Dae Hui "FoV" Cho who previously disposed of Chun Jung "Sweet" Hee with a 3-1 victory.
Seo Woo "ReiGn" Kang will encounter the in-shape Hyeong Ju "Check" Lee in the semi finals on March 4. You can follow the match in our Check versus ReiGn match item.
