After an epic five-mapper in the overall final, the Swedes from Fnatic stopped Roccat's Mission Impossible and won the NGL One Season 4 for Counter-Strike.Roccat entered the grand final from the lower bracket with the burden of having to win to sets of maps in order to pick up the trophy. Mission Impossible? It was actually Fnatic that put the Finns in the lower bracket in the first place. The grand final was Fnatic's to lose.
The battle for the NGL One trophy started with Roccat taking the first set of maps 2-0, which effectively put them on level terms with the Swedes. It was very hard work in both maps, as de_nuke ended with a 16-13 score and de_dust2 with 16-12. The second map was won thanks to Roccat's amazing terrorist side play and 2:11 in their favour in the second half.
The second set of the grand final was a different story. Fnatic hammered Roccat as counter-terrorists 11-4 on de_nuke and closed the map score at 16-10. Roccat responded by winning de_train 16-8 and took the match to the third map. Mission Impossible started to seem doable.
The map worth $10,000 was de_inferno, one of Fnatic's strongest and one of Roccat's very weakest. A strong performance as CT put Fnatic 10-5 up and Roccat in a very difficult situation. The Finns responded with a very strong CT side of their own in the second half and with 22 rounds played, the teams were level at 11-11.
The match gained tension with every round played, as the score remained very close until it was 14-14. Fnatic then took a round and needed another to win the match. That is when Fnatic's dream was over. Fnatic's Oskar "ins" Holm got the final frag and sealed the championship for Fnatic.
Roccat can definitely be proud of their performance but that pride is no consolation. Fnatic go home with $20,000 for first place.
Final standings:
1) Fnatic - $20,000
2) Roccat - $10,000
3) Alternate - $5,000
4) Mousesports
