An era in SK's history comes to an end. Abdisamad "SpawN" Mohamed takes a step back to take a different role in SK Gaming and free a spot for the budding star Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund in the team's CS lineup.Abdi has decided to take a sabbatical from professional Counter-Strike at the highest level to take on the role of an ambassador of esports. SpawN will attend events to promote SK Gaming as a great champion and a role model and he will keep on playing CS casually.
SpawN has been one of SK Gaming's legends ever since he won the World Cyber Games with the invincible SK lineup of 2003. From that event henceforward, he was one of the brightest stars in the world of electronic sports and an exemplary professional gamer.
When Abdi joined SK Gaming, he was a budding player with little experience but an insatiable desire to win. It was only right to replace him with someone that shares the characteristics of the young SpawN.
The natural replacement is GeT_RiGhT, one of Sweden's brightest players of the younger generation. The place in the roster is hard-earned, as Christopher convinced the rest of the team with his hard work and dedication.
SpawN's are very big shoes to fill, but it is SK Gaming's belief that GeT_RiGhT can do it.
Andreas "bds" Thorstensson about SpawN and GeT_RiGhT:
Christopher has been on everyone's watch list for some time now, just like Abdi in the beginning. He has the same will, dedication, enthusiasm and last, but not least, the skill to become one of the best players in the world. I am certain he will mature and shine in SK together with the highly skilled and experienced players in the team. I am very happy to welcome him to the team!
As for SpawN, my first memory of Abdi was his profile on Matrix, the internet café where he started playing. There were a few brief questions and a picture; immediately I felt that this was a really cool and humble guy.
Gaming-wise my first memories was from his time in 2easy (team9). I met him at CPL Winter 2002, back then he was a "rough diamond." Really skilled, but naturally without the routine and experience yet. 2003 came and SK had the dream team, with elemeNt as captain, we just had recently won CPL Summer.
WCG was coming close and we had to pick a firth Swedish player, and we all agreed to give SpawN a chance. He had a brief tryout together with brunk. Before made the decision I asked Abdi to email me the reason why we should pick him. His response was something like: "Pick me, I am sure we will win every event. If I suck, you can kick me, but I am sure we will win everything!" He wrote it in a humble kind of way.
As it turns out he was right on the spot. He stepped in at WCG and not only did he do that convincingly, he was brilliant. After the WCG gold it went on. At CPL Winter the same year the players got sick (he was still not part of the team). I called Abdi and asked if he could come, within 12 hours he was on the plane, a few days later another gold richer.
This is how I remember Abdi: cool, friendly, incredibly skilled, and always with a smile on his face. He has been fighting in ups and downs, never ever giving up. I admire that.
