There is not much information around regarding the 2008 Digital Games announced by the GGL aside from a press release that focuses on the Ditigal Games being an official Welcome Event of the Olympics. The press release did not have many details concerning the competition itself, but the blurb published in the 2008 Digital Games group on GGL's website has more information.

The event will feature different game genres, including sports, RTS and FPS games. It looks as though the DG08 are also an attempt to reach out to the more casual gamer. The most interesting quote in the blurb is: "The DG08 will also host the first ever Pentathlon of video gaming to select the World’s Best Gamer across 5 titles and multiple genres!"

Further information concerns the qualification process. The GGL will run competitions in five regions (North America, South America, Europe, Middle-East & Africa, Asia/Oceania) and the highest-ranked players or teams will be their countries' representatives.
